is this even worth sending in?

I kind of wanted to send in a writing piece as a supplement, but I want something especially strong, and I haven't done anything creative in the past year or so. Should I send in my final paper of junior year (a literature analysis essay on a book of choice, with literary criticisms)? I got a great grade, and I think it's well-written...but it's also like 11 pages double spaced...worth it?

and 6 pages single spaced…would rather send it in single-spaced

No, I wouldn’t send that in – they already have enough to read of yours. Perhaps a shorter piece that really demonstrates your ability.

how about a 3-pager? it’s actually more personal and well-written

idontcare: many, many graduating seniors will have particularly good samples of work. While yours is a great personal achievement, it’s not uncommon. 3 pages single space? No adcom will take the time to look into anything in depth like that – especially since it’s not a personal statement and only an example of your achievements (which will be displayed in your transcript, scores and recdommendations. Your “A” grade in the appropriate class will be sufficient). I’ll go into the trash or to the back of your app file – I guarantee it.

Only send it to schools that request a graded paper as part of the admissions process (Vassar, for example, requires one). If they don’t ask for it, don’t send it.

Chedva is right!
