is this good enough to be accepted to at least ONE boarding school?

ok, so i'm apply for 9th grade to the following schools: exeter, andover, deerfield, milton, groton, hotckiss, choate, and st. paul's (whew!)
i have had my tour/interviews for milton, deerfield, and st. paul's already and i have my tour/interviews for all the others next week. all the schools seemed pretty into me during the interviews (especially deerfield!)
my ssat average was a 91% (definitely not what i was aiming for, but oh well).
my essays and short answers for my applications have been checked again and again. i have had straight a's all through middle school (my math class is accelerated, i do adv. 9th grade math) and i believe my teacher recs will be really good!!
my ec's include:

-8 yrs of piano (superior rating in 2008-09 bach competition, superior rating in the federated exam, national and district member of guild, etc.)
-4 yrs of cello (1st chair in school orchestra. i unfortunately have nothing else in this area)
-3 yrs of school newspaper (i've been an editor for 2, and i am editor-in-chief this year)
-3 yrs of school literary magazine (editor for all three years)
-4 yrs of honors club (i have been president, treasurer, and secretary)
-and i've won a lot of awards in writing (reflections, local newspaper writing contests, essay contests)
-2 yrs of track
-3 yrs of school yearbook (i was an editor last year, and i'm an 8th grade editor this year, plus, i've been a photographer for the past 3 years)
-i was emcee of a ceremony that honors students with the highest gpa's from each school.
-i was also my state's "reader of the year" (which is won by writing an essay about why i love reading).
-3 yrs of community service (tutoring 2 4th graders)

...i really want to go to milton(st. paul's would be nice, but i don't think i have much of a chance)

(btw, i'm almost done w/ my application process, i just need my recs from my counselor and my english teacher...)

ohh, and i'm also a korean female so i'm fluent in korean+english and i take french

Oh, this should be in the chances forum!

Your EC's seem pretty good and devoted, but if you really really want to get into boarding school, add in a safety.
If you're an international, definately do so :)

(Blind leading the blind)

xoxohersheykiss, your record is wonderful, and certainly strong enough to be accepted to any number of boarding schools. I'm sure you know this.

BUT, you don't have any safeties. ALL the schools on your list are a reach for anyone. To answer your question honestly, you might end up rejected or waitlisted at all your schools. (Many of your fellow posters on CC are in the same boat.)

If you want to attend boarding school next year, I recommend you add some schools with higher acceptance rates to your list.

k, thanks. yea, i'm also applying for a day school in my state, where i'm 99% sure i'll get into.

I completely agree with Periwinkle. And your composite SSAT score is excellent, but schools also evaluate how you did on each section of the test to see if you're qualified for admission. Good luck!

when you're talking about "safeties" are you talking about schools like st. andrew's or nhm? ..isn't it a little too late to apply for them though?

NMH's application deadline is February 2nd. St. Andrew's, Delaware, is January 15th, which may be close. However, when in doubt, call and ask. This is a very nerve-wracking year for everyone.

Use the Common Application, to make it easier to meet tight deadlines.

Also, many schools have "rolling admissions," which, as I understand it, means that they may accept applications throughout the year. Many of them have deadlines for financial aid, though, so if that is a factor, call, or email, and ask.

On Boarding School Review, you can tailor a search of schools with rolling admissions: Search Boarding Schools. The list below is only a part of the whole list:

Asheville School
Avon Old Farms School
Baylor School

to add on to xoxohersheykiss's thread...
is THIS good enough to be accepted to at least ONE boarding school??

i go to a known hard private school, where i have a lot of a's as quarter grades, but i bombed two semester exams which brings most of my semester grades down to high b's. (for me, "bombed" refers to a low b). am i screwed because of my semester grades?? and is a B considered really bad for boarding school??

i do have a lot of other things in my favor... but seeing other CC people's grades as straight A+'s really really really scares me.

im freaking out. i need a chill pillllll

Don't worry if you don't have straight A's, just make sure you have other things going for you. Would help if your an athlete or maybe URM or something...

athlete..good ssats.. too many b's

ahh, i dont like chance threads, but im pretty much asking you guys to chance me.
which makes me a HUGE hypocrite. oops sorryy....

Well you can remember that while grades may be important, its just
one factor that admission officers take into account when reviewing students. So really, how well rounded are you?

Also, schools take into account the fact that applicant A with all A+'s and goes to an easy public school might not necessarily be "smarter" than applicant B who goes to a prestigious and difficult private school with mediocre/average grades

So don't worry about it TOO much, and if you're looking pretty good on ECs and recommendations and interviews and applications and etc etc, then I'd say you still have a chance despite your grades

so take a chill pill =D

I think you have as much of a chance as many other people I've seen on this forum. I think you have a greater chance at Milton because they are focused more on the arts, which you seem to excel in, and less on the athletics, which will work in your favor since you don't seem to be much of an athlete (that is okay!). So, yes, SPS and the other schools may be a bit of a reach but if you have a great personality then I think all should go well for you March 10th! Keep in mind, many of the people applying are straight 'A' students, 90's on the SSAT, good teacher recs (its a bit rare for teachers to really bash you in a reccomendation..), and some extra-curriculars. So personality is where you can shine- that will show through in your essays, and interview. If you feel you did strongly on those then yes, I definitely think you have a great chance at these schools. For Milton, I would guess maybe a 75% chance of getting in. That's just my opinion, but hey its worth something (a bit of self-esteem, if nothing else!).

heehee, thanks kemmek! i sort of need that optimistic outlook...

btw, is anyone procrastinating w/ all the applications? i'm almost done except i don't think my english or counselor finished are done w/ the recs. i have to find out tomorrow when i go to school though...

HA I think I've reached a point where procrastinating is an understatement.. I just finished my first Exeter essay, (waited until the two-week mark to start it) and now I still have to think up, write, and edit a second one before January 15th. That gives me what, a little more than a week? eeee yi yi it is not looking too good.
