Is this good to choose counselor in high school

Since it is the busiest season for college application. The only college counselor in our D's high school should be very busy. There is another counselor who is 11th grade's counselor. She likes my daughter very much. Is it appropriate to ask this counselor to handle the college application for my daughter? Thanks.

It is a good idea if that specific counselor knows your daughter well and is able to depict your daughter's +'s well. Also, as you have stated, if the other counselor is busy and does not know your daughter as well as the junior year one, then go ahead!

Since GCs who handle the 12th grade tend to have a ton of
college contacts that can come in useful during the app process
you might want to keep the 12th grade GC informed at every step?

The 12th grade/College counselor is probably going to have tons more experience navigating the application process than the 11th grade counselor. You might also have to check with the school on whether or not your daughter would even be allowed to switch counselors or have a different counselor handle her applications.

I can't help but think that this is kind of helicoptering. My GC senior year was busy, too, because of the huge amount of work the senior class applications generated, but she was great and helped me out when I really needed it. I say let the college counselor do the job that s/he knows how to do, and don't feel like you have to micromanage this part of the application.

I agree with Post #4 ^^^

It usually looks likenothing is ever going to happen and suddenly the
12th grade GCs get everyting under control. The good ones have the
process down to a precise science.
