I'm going to be a sophomore for the 2014 - 2015 school year, and I wanted to know if the high school schedule I have planned is good for good schools (schools like Berkeley, UPenn, etc.). Please be brutally honest and leave any suggestions below. Thank you so much!! :)

I"M SORRY IF THAT WAS TOO MUCH TO READ XD hopefully you're still reading this so let me know how it looks, okay? Thank you :)

AP weighting means nothing. It sounds horrible, but there is a difference between an AP weighted class (for the most part) and a non-AP waited class. It also seems that your schedule is not very well rounded, you should be taking an english, science, history, and math class every year and from what it looks like to me you don’t. It also seems that your senior year course load is not very rigorous; you go from a very competitive sophomore and junior year schedule to a schedule that looks to be mainly electives. If those are the only classes your school has then it’s fine, colleges will understand but if there are APs to be taken then you should take those over some of the electives.

Your schedule looks good except for the lack of science in junior and senior year, especially physics (did you take it freshman year?). Because you doubled up sophomore year, you may be able to not take it for one year, but i wouldn’t for both years (unless you doubled up freshman year). You have english, social studies (you don’t have to take history every year, just social studies, which is broader and includes government and psychology), and math every year which is good.I disagree with @maymay5678 your senior year schedule is still very rigorous (props to you for multi/linear and AP french). Don’t get caught up in the number of APs trap. Take the classes you want to. There are sometimes non-AP classes that are more rigorous than APs (why they are sometimes weighted on the AP level). Being AP weighted does matter because it shows that the course is very rigorous. I think you are making a good choice for english senior year because it seems like a class that would teach you more and benefit you more than an AP english.

What did you take freshman year? It may help make a clearer picture.

@maymay5678 my school doesn’t have many other APs at all

@guineagirl96 I took AP Physics B freshman year

Freshman year:

Physical Education 9
Academic English I
Music Theory I
Honors Algebra II
French II
Honors American Government
AP Physics B
Business in the 21st Century (mandatory elective)

Ok, then i’d say your fine with the sciences, although if you could work in another one in either senior or junior year it would probably be better (give you a little boost, although not necessary). I think you have a good distribution of classes! And props for taking AP physics as a freshman, that’s definitely something to be proud of!

I think the two of those would be looked at similarly (both for different reasons). I would take whatever appeals to you more. You still have several years before you have to decide. I’d take the other business electives you are planning on taking and see if you really want to continue down that path. If you take the business elective, you are showing dedication, but if you take AP environ, you show that you’ve taken 4 “years” of science (because you doubled up one year- they count the courses, not the actual years). Its a trade off. Do what feels right to you.
