So my schools term runs from march to late december (we dont have summer vacations only 1-2 weeks)
I graduate in december and I send the apps on december and after that I graduated… If I go to college in the US I get like 6-7 months of vacations
ok now let me get to the point:
As my school is closed from january 31 to the end of february should I be worried about colleges calling in to verify info and my teacher, counselours and every other members of staff being on the vacations?
could this compromise my application?
Do colleges often call the school to verify stuff is this normal?
Cause if it is there will only be like security there and I am sure they wont be much of a help…

That's an odd schedule! I don't think it will affect your application, but I'm not sure. Mid-year reports are usually due in January/February, so what about them (unless you send them in early)??? If you apply EA/ED/rolling, it definitely should not affect anything. RD, it possibly might. I doubt think colleges call schools routinely unless something is screwed up on your application/transcript. I'd ask the schools you're looking at if it would affect anything.

The thing is no one @ my school has ever went to a decent US univeristy

I want to be the first one to go to an Ivy League

my counselour is the worst thing I have ever seen he only knows about UK uni's

I need mre feedback please

You may want to consider sending your applications before you graduate - like in November - and make sure all of your transcripts and recommendations, etc. also be sent prior to you graduating from school. You don't have to apply early decision - just get the application on it's way before your school year ends. - just a thought

I think I would compose a letter asking this question, run it through spell check, and send it to every college I was remotely interested in. Further, I think I would mail - not e-mail the letter. That way, your responses will be paper. You can photocopy them for your GC. Since they were on letterhead, they will be more impressive. (have you read any Discworld books? this is headology).

If you don't get an answer in, say, 3 weeks, e-mail the question.

Next, we have the question of dealing with a GC that isn't too up on things. The head of my son's hs guidance department said "as far as college applications go, their may as well be a barded wire fence around Ohio'. You are not along in dealing with this lack of knowledge, and you are doing exactly the right thing - your own research! If something needs to get into your GC's report, make sure that it is on a piece of paper in your folder, it is more likely to make it into the report. People are lazy by nature and are more likely to lift a phrase from your list of accomplishments than write a new one.

thanks a lot Ohio_mom

I will do that urgently.. I am going to visit the UNI's over the summer with my parents and I am reading some excellent college counseling books ..

but again what about the question of them calling and having no one to anwser?

do they normally call.. I mean dont they talk with the counselor about me or they dont have time for everyone?

GoCollege - in many cases the schools will not call - unless they really have questions concerning your application - just make sure when you submit your application - that ALL documentation requested is submitted - from you - your GC, etc.....

I will take care about that
