Is this internship worth it

I am almost having a breakdown right now because I don't know what to do with my summer.
I have applied for an internship at a small business company for the month of August but I want to go into the medical field.
Should I do this internship or leave it?
Will it be better to relax the summer before my sophomore year?

Bump, 22 views but no replies!!!

the summer is almost over… and you’re looking for internships?

relax, and start searching early(during fall!!) for next summer’s internships.

does the internship have any transferable skills? I worked at a museum and a non-profit and ended up in publishing, but I was able to use some of the skills I learned at those first internships to get my current job. things like basic office skills, or communicating with customers/clients, maintaining databases. those are useful in a lot of different industries.
that being said, if you’re going into sophomore year you have lots of time to find an internship that you really love, so don’t freak out if you really don’t want to do it!!

Transferable skills: Work experience
The company is an IT corp.
I really want to volunteer at a hospital but I have to be 16 in order to do so.
Also, internships are only one small part of your app, right?
It’s not a big deal if I don’t have one, right?
If I volunteer at a hospital 2 years from now, it will be just as impressive, right?

are you going into your sophomore year of high school? I had no internships on my app and I got in to a very selective school - I think you don’t have to worry about it. you have lots of time to volunteer at a hospital and you can’t do anything about it now anyway, so you might as well relax a little!!

Thank you!
I guess I should start preparing for the AP classes I will be taking in September

Internships are very nice, but only if they relate to your future, or it involves a serious commitment.

Volunteering is also good, but if you go for just a few hours one day and never return, then why bother? If you’re not even 16, then you have some time. Volunteer or participate with organizations and businesses that spark your interest, and find out any and all possible positions for your age- disregard what the position does. Talk to any contacts you know and just ask for something; but don’t plead too much.

Since this summer is mostly gone, try to volunteer as much as you can or see if there are any camps/college courses available for your age group. Once you get some ‘insider knowledge’, use that in the future to get a position of some sort.

I got into 3 colleges, and I didn’t even take the SATs… of course one was a 100% acceptance CC, and one was a 90% acceptance flagship state university, but one was an top private university in the Philippines. But I went through the Army first…

Why would a college student need an internship? The most important variable in education is what you bring to the table: your initiative, intelligence, experiences… not the exclusiveness of the college you attend (unless want to network). Just stay home and read up on what you like.

You don’t need internships in high school. Don’t worry about it, just enjoy your summer.
