I can't believe that i'm even asking this, but here's my question...

I had a 3.915 for freshman year, which was 8 As and 1 B+ for 33 total credits. The B+ was in Astronomy... but we never saw our final exam grade, only our final grade.

I truly think that I was in the A- range for the class. Do you think if I went to my professor's office hours in the fall, I could ask him about the grade (4 months later)? An A- would bring my freshman GPA to a 3.957, which would be wonderful since i'm applying to some top schools for transfer.

Do you think that there's a very good chance that my old professor would rip my head off for asking such a question? I feel that I couldn't blame him if he wanted to. Are grades even able to be changed after all this time?

email him now. and just ask how you did on the final and that you want to see it and when you can arrange this. then take it from there. you can't ask him to change your grade just cause. most professors don't, however in my experiences they hear you out.

Your GPA is excellent. Unless you have evidence otherwise, I seriously doubt that a 3.957 will get you anywhere that a 3.915 wouldn't already get you.

Still, I think it's fine to try and satisfy yourself re the grade by asking for information on how you did on the final exam (now, as NImeshShah says; not in the fall), but I would not ask for a grade change.

I think you are overly worried about your grades, whichi are excellent. Consider relaxing and enjoying a bit. :)

thanks jmmom - yeah, the whole transferring idea is pretty overwhelming (the application process). i had a feeling that this whole idea was a little off...

I think I'll just forget the whole idea if you're saying that those fractions of points won't make a tremendous difference! Thanks alot.

well, i went ahead and asked him very delicately and politely about the final exam grade. I figured that I might as well since I don't plan on taking any more courses with him so there's nothing to lose...
