Is this list realistic?

Here are my stats:

CR 740
M 770
WR 750

SAT II scores pending in Math 1/2 and U.S.
I hope avg of 750, at the very least I expect them all to be in the 700s.

Secondary School Record:
UW: 3.8 W: 4.1
Class Rank: 31/265

Virginia resident of Blacksburg High School, a competitive public school comprised of mostly professor's kids - we send the vast majority of our students to colleges, usually we have twenty or so that go to "elite privates - one or two at HYP and several at Wash U, Vanderbilt, Emory, and others," a large number that go to VTech and UVA. For sure, not an elite prep school, but has been listed quite frequently (almost always) on newsweek's top 300 high schools (and has several years been listed in the top 100). Known nationally for our high AP scores.

Devoted to many extracurriculars, have good essays and recs. I expect the subjective component of my app to be pretty decent.

Do you think this list is realistic?

I'm applying as a Religion major. My "hook" is my contemplative mysticism. I'm a VA resident. I have triple legacy at UMD.

Early Decision:
Princeton University (Reach)

Regular Decision:
Williams College (Reach)
Georgetown University (Reach)
Northwestern University (Match)
University of Notre Dame (Match)
College of William and Mary (Match)
University of Virginia (Match)
University of Maryland (Safety)
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Safety)

Thanks!

????? what is contemplative mysticism?

chuckle, my quiet values and spiritual views on life... I percieve them (I don't know if others will) to be kind of unique.

do you think the list is realistic?

bump......

Sorry, contemplative mysticism is another word for liberal, not a really hook. In fact, I believe that if you even dare to try that, it will result in a likely rejection...find something else to talk about in your essay.

Northwestern, I'm not sure if that's really a match. You are a competitive applicant, but it's more like a slight reach. I'd also call Georgetown a slight reach.

You do have a good sense of your standing, but here is my main concern: you claim to be interested in religion, yet you don't seem to have anything in your transcript to back that up and, as far as I know, no EC's to back it up. This could prove to be a problem in the admissions process.

If contemplative mysticism and religion major are supposed to be some kind of trick used to help you get into Williams...I'm sorry to tell you that it probably won't work.

If you genuinely are interested in religion, you need to somehow show that, and writing an essay on how you're a "contemplative mystic" probably won't be enough...maybe instead, write about a specific even that sparked your interest in religion? Just a thought.

Anyways, you are clearly a very bright student, and you will end up going to college, so have no fear!

"contemplative mysticism is another word for liberal..."

chuckle, that's funny.

you really think georgetown is only a slight reach? I guess I am applying to the arts and sciences, not the walsh fs.

"subjective component of essay" lol that got me laughing. I think all essays are supposed to be subjective no? Elaborate on ur ECs please.

Drum Major (that means conductor and field commander of) high school marching band, pretty good Euphonium player/Trombonist, Instructor of karate, kendo, kobu-do, directed and acted in local annual charity dinner theatre for past few years, extensively involved in church youth group including several leadership positions, President of Philosophy Club. I have a sixteen-hundred word article published in a national magazine about the fiscal and environmental situation of the New Orleans Fire Department.

Someone may post and quibble about where you drew the border between match and reach, but your list as a whole seems well thought out and your assessments realistic. Good luck!

Your list is fine. Good luck.
