Is this Mac...too good to be true.

the cost?

$900.

Now tell me...is this too good to be true. It's from...a site that is highly renowned and guarantees insurance and stuff. Something like this would typically cost like....$2000 right?

I even emailed the user who is selling it and they tell me no catch. It's brand new, sealed.

Iunno...is this too good to be true. Should I purchase it?

what site? and what about the processor?

It's probably a refurb 1.83GHz...and I'd say that deal indicates that something isn't right with the machine. Either it's got a hardware issue, it's used, or something like that.

with an apple product, if the price is more than 15% off retail, it's probably not legit, since apple is really, really strict about price controlling their products. $900 for a machine that cost $1800 minimum new is half off...I'd be suspicious.

That's definitely quite shifty. You can't get a new baseline MacBook for that kind of money.

thats what i thought.

The site is Amazon, a popular site and stuff. It guarantees no fraud or something.

And what do you guys mean by processor?

What is the speed in GHz?

Either someone just bought a computer they didn't need and doesn't care about getting back anywhere near what they paid for it, or they got it illegally or it's not as described. The item could be "hot". I don't understand amazon's guarantee but I guess you could give it a shot, it still sounds far too fishy.

2.0 GHZ tahts the speed of it. Very quick in my eyes.

Don't trust it just because it's Amazon. Amazon lets 3rd party sellers display their goods on the site. IMHO, there is no way that deal is legit.

You won't find a new Mac (legitimately) for more than $50 cheaper than Apple's MSRP, and if you want a used one, go through Apple. Any other used Mac is likely to be shifty and untrustworthy like this one.

The other good sources for used Macs include Small Dog Electronics and Other World Computing. Shreve Systems and Sun Remarketing have been around forever but I don't see much of them anymore.

Amazon is trying too hard to be like eBay sometimes.

Yeah....Look at teh various things I asked the seller...and see how he responded...

Email 1:

Hey,

So whats the catch. I'm looking at the Macbook pro you are offering at the cheap price of $822 dollars for a macbook that has

2.16 Ghz --> which is really quick
100 GB hard drive - more than needed
1 GB Ram - Not bad ram
Ethernet/Bluetooth
15'4 screen.

Something like this would cost about over 2000 in the regular market but here you are pricing it at 822.

So wahts the catch. Is this MacBook Pro really new?

Does it come with any programs.

Is there a warranty?

I'm very interested but not finding enough detail on this product on Amazon. Thanks !

Final Email 3 -

I'm sorry. This item is making me too skeptic. You're not reassuring me enough, simply saying It's brand new doesn't cut it I suppose. I don't want to be scammed. I have the money but a lot of people are telling me that this deal is too good to be true and that there must be something wrong with it. Perhaps another time or maybe I'll change my mind. But for now, the answer is no.

as you wish.i have an advice - get drunk sometimes,it will help you to have more confinece in people.i do this when i get upsaid.
best regards

Kinda glad that i didn't get into with someone who didn't know how to spell..

"upset"..

lol.

Sounds like it was stolen or they are lying to you.

I think the fact that he replied to your concerns by telling you to get drunk and then come back, as it would give you more "confinece" in him, is just a little bit of a red flag ; ) Too bad that's his way of dealing with "upsaidness." (Whoa--it's like a bizarre, ESL fusion of upset, sad, and said!) The sad thing is, he will probably find someone to rip off very quickly.
