Hi, everyone, I'm new here, I just want some imput on stuff cuz you all seem to know what you are talking about!
I'm trying to decide on colleges and a major...
I would like to go into music....piano performance specifically, but I love to accompany and I am a good sight reader.....is there such a thing as a piano accompaniment major??
How about colleges that aren't too expensive but have a good music program!? I live in MN, closer would be nicer than far away, but I am willing to travel??
So I am just wondering what you all think of the major? how many jobs are there out there for piano accompanists?? the other option for me is playing concerto's or piano trios?? I love to play with other instruments as well and I love symphonies and Orchastra's and those types of groups...so I would love to be able to play in those....but from what I have researched there aren't many jobs for that available?? any suggestions, on colleges or majors??
the other major I have been considering is a jewelry and metalsmithing major, I like working with jewelry and wouldn't mind casting and gem setting and all that stuff....do any of you know about that kind of major?? I haven't been able to find much on that. any colleges would have to be generous with scholarships....I will not be able to pay for even half of a regular tuition so a scholarship that would pay for everything would be Amazing! thanks guys for any help!

I can’t personally say anything about the quality of this major. I heard an article on NPR the other day about performance music majors and the lack of positions for them (also the demand for them). Check out the article and see for yourself.

There are definitely accompanist majors, often referred to as “collaborative piano.” The guru of the field is Martin Katz at the University of Michigan. You may want to ask your question about specific programs on the “Music” board of CC - the people who post there are very knowledgeable.
