I am VERY interested in International Relations and want to major in it...however, my ultimate goal is to go to med school....Do you think it is reasonable to be a IR major to go to med school? I know it's not applicable to a career in medicine, but still, med schools are looking for diversity, right??

Wow--that's surprising---Yeah that's what I sorta want to do--major something I enjoy in, and something I could get a high GPA in--while reflecting the fact that I definitely want to be a doctor...But that's the hard part

Take advantage of volunteer opportunities

Use the personal statement to show why you want to be a doctor. However, avoid cliches.

When you interview with an adcom, you will be able to discuss why you want to be a doctor and what you can bring to their medical school.

Take into consideration that Med schools these days are more inclined to take students who did not major in "typical" premed areas (Biology, Biochemistry, etc.). They are looking for students who demonstrate a broad range of intrests. I have several friends who intend to go to Med school but are majoring in economics, business, and anthopology.

Of course, your gpa and MCAT scores are important; just because you major in say english, it does not guarantee you admission.

As long as you do well in whatever you focus in, you should be fine.
