Hey, I’m graduating in May with a Marketing Degree, my advisor told me if I take two more Hospitality classes(won’t push back my graduation) I can get a minor in Hospitality Administration.
Not sure if its worth the money and time, I don’t feel like I will be working at any hotels In the near future and isn’t minor worthless?
Minors are not worthless. Plus, if pursuing a career in marketing, then a minor in Hospitality Administration should give you some credibility with that industry.
Have a couple of relatives who work or have worked in marketing for major worldwide hotel chains.
P.S. Both make high salaries. One is a CPA & the other has an MBA.
Might not be a bad idea, unless there were some other courses you really wanted to take instead. Minoring in hospitality admin doesn’t mean that you will be working the front desk in a hotel. The minor might catch a potential employer’s eye and that department might have some hiring events you could check out.
Hospitality goes beyond hotels, it could also include events, travel, cruises, food & beverage among others. You just need to decide if any of those are of interest to you.
So the next question is whether there are any other minors that you could pick up instead. Maybe statistics or finance or something. Bottom line, unless you have zero interest in working in anything that falls under the hospitality umbrella, probably not a bad idea.
