Hi everyone! So UVM was one of my top schools and I was going for nursing. I have a 3.7GPA, 28 ACT, 17 honors courses, 3 AP courses and lots of EC’s.
My question is: I was deferred from UVM, but i think it is somewhat odd that a girl from my high school class got into their nursing program. She did not take any honors or AP classes and does not have better test scores than I do. Does this seem odd to anyone else? If so, what should I do?
Confused and bummed.
Thanks!
You don’t know everything in her application. You don’t know what her recommendations said, what her outside activities have been, if she is a legacy, if her ability to pay affected her admission, if her family has some ethnic background that isn’t obvious to you, or how her essays look. There is no point in second guessing. Course rigor is only one component of admissions. Focus on your other applications. If you have any new accomplishments, email admissions at the school that deferred you to let them know.
I do know her activities, legacy, ability to pay, etc. She is a pretty close friend of mine. I took all of that into consideration.
If you really want to attend, contact the admissions advisor for your region. Let them know your interest, send your latest grades and accomplishments, etc. Nursing programs are usually smaller and entry can be tough but it is worth a shot.
You probably really don’t. My kids’ best friends did not know some of those details about my kids.
