I'm scared of going off to college

I mean I love ND and all, but I can't help but be frightened of the unknown..

Making new friends
Finding my niche
Getting along with roomate(s)
Being so far away from family
etc...

I think I felt the same way about high school during the last quarter of 8th grade

For example, I haven't the slighest idea how classes are structured in terms of credits and stuff...

is it normal to be scared?

i'm terrified too. everyone is--you're definitely not alone!

yea, everyone should be freaking out.. but hey..that's life!

Don't worry, it is very normal, and everyone is prepared for that here. You will have a lot of support! That doesn't mean that it is easy, it can be very tough, but you are not alone.

For what it is worth, I am freaked out about graduating from Notre Dame and going to grad school :). It is just a part of any major life event, but especially moving away from home the first time. The good news is once you make that step, it is much easier after that.

I'M FRICKIN PUMPED!! AHHH INTRAMURAL FOOTBALL, GREATEST FALL SATURDAYS OF MY LIFE, MOST AMAZING CAMPUS IN THE WORLD, BEST BUSINESS SCHOOL AROUND!!!! unbelieeeeeevable! when do we move in?!?!? my admissions packet is "being sent out" :)

random roommates? put me wit "the savior" (jimmy clausen = JC = jesus christ) lol thatd be pretty sick ha

haha jvon's 'freaking out' is a bit different than yours wowser

I think Id have a similar reaction as Jvons. I prob be more excited than scarred/nervouos

I see
thank you so much for your posts!!

made me feel much better

and congrats again jvon!

Wowser normal yes, but after 2-3 weeks you will have forgotten that you posted this thread, remember there will be hundreds like yourself who feel that they are to far from home , concerned with the course load etc. In the end you make life long friends and memories. My daughter was much like you now she tells me that dad this is my home, I love it here..... You'll be fine, jump in with both feet, get involved and know that there are many kids who wish they had the same chance you will be living. Go Irish..........

another thing to keep in mind that i always think about... I'm in 6 AP "college classes" (as I'm sure most everyone) of which i have EVERY DAY plus sports every day after school... i think college is going to be a lot easier for most of us in that we will have much more free time for studies, less classes, and more days in between classes--no more having 6 classes every day with homework in each one that you have to do every night when you get home from football at 7! i don't think it can get any more difficult than that at college so no worries about course load!

You wouldn't think so...

well way to help soothe the frantic kids scared to go to college u jag!(sarcasm) haha...

now i'm a little scared lol; someone who goes to ND make me feel better pleaaaaaase! lol

Course load is similiar, probably a bit more. The main difference is that it's very much less structured. You decide when to do your work, mostly. Hours spent in the classroom are less, but you make up for it in reading, writing, and studying on your own time.

ya, unless you're playing sports in college you have that

For me the hardest thing is coming home from a 3 and a half hour football practices that completely tires out your body, and then studying for AP Classes and Test....

That actually what I'm doing today..hah

AP English Language test tomorrow... any tips?

^ I'm taking it tomorrow too. Good luck =)

our frickin school system is so F'ed up, we take lit and language tests as seniors... they just changed it all this year so we got screwwwwwwwed!

YA

Im not worried about the essays; writing comes pretty natural to me

some of those reading passages are extremely boring and its hard for me to concentrate

Whats that new essay called, scsquid, is it synthesis? Where we get like 6 sources... Im a little worried on that one, mainly because we need to use some ridiculous evidence to prove our points

hmmm many of seniors (including myself) have pretty much given up on the AP exams

my school requires everyone to take ap exams and only gives .5 weight to AP courses to only the ones who have taken the exams in those courses so pretty much, seniors just sit thru ap exams for the .5s at my school.

given up!!?? i can't wait to have a years worth of credit!! i'll see if i can graduate like a semester early and save 20 g's!!

as for the synthesis... it wasn't too bad... i took u.s. history and euro exams where there was a similar DBQ (data based question) so it wasn't too bad...

Yea, synthesis isn't too bad. I've taken three history (World, US, and Euro) with DBQs so I kind of knew what I was doing. Plus, writing comes pretty natural to me, so I wasn't expecting any kind of problem.
Reading the passages are always hard. I get bored fairly quickly and I just don't want to concentrate. I think I did alright though.

You're not going to want to graduate a semester early. Just fyi.
