Last weekend, I was taking a practice AP exam and I finished up all 4 essays in 25 minutes. That left me 75 minutes. Is it weird that I finished so fast, does it mean I didn't write well enough? I don't know how common it is to finish this quickly.

i guess you’ll see when you find out your score!

Sure… it doesn’t matter if you’re the best in that particular AP subject… you physically couldn’t have put down enough to get a high score… I write pages and pages on an essay…

Gryffon, it could’ve been short answer questions instead of an actual essay.

^ Maybe… I guess… but the test gives 100 minutes total for a reason… and I don’t think it’s to spend 6 minutes on an independent question.

I suppose it’s certainly possible to do well while finishing that fast, it’s unlikely that you were able to go into as much depth as desired and it’s highly probable that your score will be rather low.

Well, I wrote about 2 pages worth for each essay. Not enough depth?

(They were free-response questions, not short answers)

Okay, well I actually just finished grading myself since the free-response questions were 2008 questions from College Board. I got perfect scores on 3 essays, and one point off on the 4th. I swear I graded correctly and everything. But this is still making me feel really weird… I am not smart or quick-minded by any means and if the test gave me 100 minutes to finish writing the essays, how in the world did I finish in 30 and STILL manage perfect scores on 3 of the essays?

I’ve done that with math sections on the SAT and the Calc exam. I’d finish with more than half of the time left, feeling pretty sure that I’ve done everything right and made no mistakes. So I’d just idly sit there, being blatantly bored.

As for your essays, maybe you just knew what you wanted to write from the get-go. Half of the work in doing those essays is trying to make a cohesive and articulate argument.

what test was it

Okay, as I said it’s possible. Which test was it?

It was AP US gov’t.

AP US Gov essays are tricky to grade. So many times I’ve written an essay, looked at the scoring guidelines afterwards and thought to myself that I did really well.

And then I get 85s, 80s, and a 35 (yay lowest grade drops).
