Is this ok?

I understand it's somewhat a lot to read, but please help me.

I'm kinda freaked out.
For my reach school's I've picked out a few Ivies.
My EC and awards and those things are almost enough to
satisfy the adcoms (I think)

I'm studying hard for the SATs.

But.. my GPA isn't that great
could you take a look and please please answer my questions?
I really want to relax over the break, but I don't think I can worrying about this. So I'd really appreciate you guys' opinions.
Thanks

Freshman year

Chorus A
World History I A
Geometry Hon A
English 9 Reg A
Spanish 1 A
Biology Hon A
PE A
(my counselor didn't let me take honors eng and history cause I just got out of ESOL in 8th grade)

Sophomore year

Chorus A
AP World History A
Algebra 2 Hon B+...
English 10 Hon B+
Spanish 2 B+
Chemistry Hon A
PE B+

Junior Year (now that 3rd quarter's over I think these assumptions are pretty accurate)

Chorus A
AP US B (hardest class in the school... only handful As in the whole course)
Precalc. Hon A
AP Eng B+
Spanish 3 A
AP chem B+
Physics Hon B+

As you can see, my grades are hardly upper trend. The fact that I took like a crash course and dove into taking bunch of honors and APs kinda did a serious blow to my grades.

However, my weighted GPA will exceed 4.0

I'm kinda scared that it's not an upper trend.
What do you think?

Also,
how do Ivies calc. weighted high school GPA? (my high school adds .5 to the final year grade of AP courses)

What's your uw GPA?

so far, it's like 3.9

Wowser,
Your grades look good.
I was wondering if you would be first generation college? What is your first language? Are you an American citizen? What are you interested in studying? Will you need Financial Aid?
These are some things which might influence your choice of schools to apply to, and may impact your acceptance results.

ah
thanks so much

i'm korean.
I came here and leanred english 4 years ago.
My english is remarkable according to my AP English teacher (she told me to drop out 1 st quarter because she didn't think I'd do well, but I worked hard and showed her my B+ and she said congrats and sorry)

Not a citizen. In the process of obtaining a Green Card.

Interests?
Foreign relations.
I have ECs and scholarships related to race relations and stuff.

financial aid?
maybe... but I thought the adcoms don't see those financial stuff to prevent themselves from being influenced by financial needs...

Anyway thank you!
how do i calc. Weighted GPA?

LOL more koreans... UW 3.9's pretty good actually. I think people look at UW more than W...

well... i'm wondering how ppl at CC say they have like 4.5 weighted gpa... how do they calc that????...

Calculations of Weighted GPA

Regular GPA is computed using the Regular Grading Scale as if there were no weighted grades
Bonus points are assigned for each weighted class (.2 points per weighted class per semester taken) for Honors and Advanced Placement classes of "C" or better. "D" and "F" do not receive bonus points.
The bonus points are averaged over the number of semesters involved in the GPA (total points divided by the number of semesters).
Add the regular GPA and the average bonus points to obtain the weighted GPA
Example:

End of junior year weighted

GPA - 3.45 + 7 AP/H classes

3.45 + 7 x.2 = 1.4: 6 (sem.) = .23

3.45 + .23 = 3.68 weighted GPA

OR weighted is when you just do this...:
A = 5.0, B = 4.0, C = 3.0, D = 1.0, F = 0 (there is no 2.0)

6 semester? aren't there only 2 semesters per year??

and is that true for all colleges?

and how do some people say they have 4.5 or higher GPA???
... I'm so depressed now..

anyone? please clarify this please please!

there are hundreds of unique ways high schools calculate grade point averages. what is more important is that you get good grades in difficult courses.

ive seen 5.1 gpas on this board. thats no more impressive to an adcom than a 3.8 if they both originate from the same grades in the same courses.

but don't colleges calc. GPA according to their own ways?
I read from countless college guides that APs and Honors courses are calculated on a 5.0 scale. A being 5.0. Which is true? I'm so confused...
will B+s and a B hurt me when I'm applying for Ivies?

In my school, a 5.0 is for AP classes and a 4.5 is for honors classes.... math classes lower than AP Calc and introductory language classes are not honors, however; only a few english, history, & science ones are. I have a cumumlative 4.55 or so now and I'm the top ranked in my year. It's not easy to get over 4.5 but it's possible... most Ivy-bound seniors here end up with 4.6 to 4.7

lackadaisy, did you get all As in order to get GPA of 4.55?

do you know how Ivies re-calc GPAs?

Yeah, I'm straight-A... if I had percentages it would be 96.5% or so, I believe. (But I also would have worked harder =P)

btw OP, how is your UW gpa counted. It does not look like a 3.9 from the grades that you posted. 7 Bs and even B+s should have brought it lower than 0.1

well that's just presumed grades. I could work harder to get As in some of them , but I doubt things will go so well 4th quarter with AP exams, SATs and stuff.

So far, I have 3.9 uw.

see but i really haven't shown upper trend because more challenging courses I take, harder it gets. especially for a FOB (fresh off the boat...)

is that bad

definitely try to get more As if you want a chance at top schools because it doesnt appear that you have very strong ECs.

Also, the fact that you don't have a green card yet will affect your admissions if you need financial aid.
