Hey guys, I am currently a high school senior planning on attending a CCC next year. Throughout high school I have taken 21 semester units at my local CC for dual enrollment credits to get some of my high school requirements out of the way. I plan on majoring in mechanical engineering and according to ASSIST and my counselor I need another 64 units, which means I will have a total of at least 85 units when I transfer (possibly more if I do not do well on the placement tests have to take other pre-reqs). Is this okay? Can I still transfer normally or is that way to many credits?

If all of those units are from a CCC, it’s no problem for admission. Units earned in excess of 70 sem units may satisfy subject requirements (general education/preparation for the major), but no further unit credit toward the degree will be granted. Just don’t go over 90 sem units, though.

Oh, awesome, I can rest at ease. Yes, all of those credits are from a CCC. I was already a little nervous about the situation, and then I read this thread:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/479934-how-should-i-handle.html and I thought I was in the same situation.

i just wanted to salute you, ratroll. i wish i had been so goal-oriented in high school. it’s REALLY great that you are already using assist.org and planning out your units. keep it up, and you’ll get in anywhere you want.

i wasted so much time in CCC because i didn’t know what i wanted to do, ugh.

(and that was my useless contribution to this thread)

I’m not exactly positive about this and I suggest you ask all qualified professionals about it (certainly don’t just ask your counselor and leave it at that)… but I was kind of under the idea that those credit limit rules don’t always apply to engineering, bio, chem, etc type majors since you have so many lower division requirements as it is which would make it impossible to stay within their guildelines. But again, look into it!
