Is this okay to write?

For the Brown Essay it states,

“We all exist within communities or groups of various sizes, origins, and purposes; pick one and tell us why it is important to you, and how it has shaped you. (100 word limit)”

Do you think it is okay to write about my family there? I wanted to talk about the importance of my family and my heritage and how it has made me more hard working, etc.

The other option would be to write about a week-long camp for siblings w cancer that I went to where I made friends with people who have shared similar experiences as me and learned about leadership and fighting back. (I already have a section discussing cancer)

What do you think would be better? Do these work well with the task?

I don’t know, I think maybe they’re looking for something more than a week long and I’m not sure they are targeting family here… I’m thinking more along the lines of maybe a youth group, sports team, club, ethnic group, etc.

The most important thing to remember about this essay is that it has to be about YOU. Focus on the last part of the question if possible - “how it has shaped you.”
