is this okay?

..so I filled out the PROFILE about five days ago and for the amount my family was willing to pay my mom told me to put $2000 (yeah I laughed too). so I did. my family's income right now is around $60k. my parents said it's all right if I put 2000.

is it?

I guess I can change it later when I put the accurate figures in but yeah. thanks for the answers

Yes, go ahead and put that. That's a dumb field on the Profile and it doesn't matter what you put, the college will figure out the financial aid based on its own formula. So it's silly, but your mom is right to give you a low-end figure. (I wouldn't go that low on my own forms -- but there's no harm so you might as well keep your mom happy right now).

okay thank you!

I think it's fine, too. The colleges will figure out their own amount for EFC anyway. My family is a little under 60K, and I think I put $4000 in that box because it was approximately what the FAFSA calculators gave us. I know the CSS/institutional methodology would give a larger figure, but realistically $4000 is high-but-manageable for us. The college did end up coming back with a higher amount (which we will endeavor to pay), but I don't think it would have mattered a bit what we originally put in the box on the CSS application.
