Is this possible?

Hello,

The situation that I am in is kind of confusing but I will try my best to explain it in the best possible way. I am wanting to transfer to UCLA for the Fall 2013 semester. What I wanted to know is if it is possible to do this regarding the circumstances that I am under. For the last two years I attended Santa Barbara City College in which I was able to accumulate 61 units in total. I applied for UCLA for the Fall 2012 semester but was denied. I decided to attend San Francisco St University this Fall 2012 semester because I didn't feel like going back to a CC. I am going to take 15 units this semester at SFSU and probably going to take 15 to 16 units again in the Spring 2013 semester. I still feel however that UCLA is the school for me and that is why I want to know if this is possible. What I wanted to know was if it is somehow possible for me to be able to transfer from SFSU to UCLA next year. I have more units from attending SBCC at 61 units then I would have from attending a full year at SFSU so would I be considered a CC transfer still? Please if you can tell me any options that I might have that would be great.

You would not. You would be considered a 4-year transfer and if you must have Junior standing (not senior) or you won’t be considered. If you really want to go to UCLA, go back to your CCC and raise your GPA. You can take as many units as you want a CCC.

What is the unit limit I have to stay under to transfer to a UC school?

I don’t remember. But it’s highly unlikely that they would accept you. Four-year transfers are given the lowest priority and less than 10% are accepted. There is no limit for CCC transfers, only 4 years.

So it is possible? Even though there isn’t a good change it is still possible?

I’m not sure.

Thanks for the help

Anybody else have any suggestions?

Don’t base your life on LAforlife’s post. IF it’s really the school for you then call the admissions office (several times if necessary) until you get a good answer. Right now, from this story. No chance. If my comment brings you down, then it wasn’t the school you really really wanted.

I don’t understand how you could possibly know whether or not UCLA is truly the school for you.

4th year transfers are extremely rare. Planning your future based on the mere possibility of transferring to UCLA seems like a very bad idea.

Judging from your first post, I’m going to guess that you are not a native English speaker. If you are adamant about attending UCLA in 2013, I would suggest getting professional help on your essay.

I am a native english speaker…

Here’s the maximum unit cap for 4-year transfers for UCLA:

ok so let me see if i got this right? If I stay at sfsu for this year only and stay under the unit cap of 86 units then I will be eligible to transfer? Also I forgot to mention that UCSB would be the only other school that I would be interested in going to if I had the chance to transfer there.

For you to stay under 86 units, you will need to only enroll in 21 units or less for the year; that means you’ll be less than full-time, which will mess with your financial aid if you are on that.

I completely forgot about my financial aid. Is there any way I can adjust it to make it so I don’t have to go to school full time?

Is it possible to select which dorms you want to live in as a freshmen at Pace University??

Or actually couldn’t I stay under the 86 units even if I enrolled full time both semesters because of the possibility that some of the csu classes im taking don’t transfer to uc?

You gotta work it out with your financial aid office.

There isn’t a sure way for you to figure out which courses won’t transfer … do you really want to stake your entire transfer plan on the possibility that you may guess correctly?

I am willing to take the chance, but Im going to have to try and find a way to see which units transfer. If anybody knows of a way please let me know?
