I received a 12k scholarship at a private university in state. The cost will still be slightly more than my current school, but for a much better education. Is it possible to ask my current institution to reconsider my scholarships (currently none) for the next three years in an effort to keep me from not transferring? I'm a good student etc. If it is possible, how do I go about doing this?

You can try, but I doubt that the school will come through. You would have to ask the financial aid staff to reevaluate your financial aid package.

But if the cost is only “slightly more” for a “much better education”, why would you? Clearly there were reasons for transferring.

@KKmama - I’m just saying that if my current institution could get close to matching what the other school gave me, my current institution would almost be free. So it would be possible to be getting a better deal at my current school.

You asked that question back in February, and everyone who replied told you that it won’t work. The school has no incentive to offer you more money. Did you talk with anyone from the financial aid office last month after the offer from the other school was sent to you?

Go on ahead and talk to your financial aid officer and bring the offer letter. Frankly, I don’t think they will go for it, but give it a try. Also talk to your dean and see if s/he can help you on this.

Do remember, that it’s not how much you GET in aid/scholarships that counts, but the bottom line cost to YOU. You say that even with the larger award, you would be paying MORE if you transferred to the other school. The other school costs more, and that’s what I’d say to you if I were the Fin Aid officer.
