Is this possible?

Could you estimate my chances for UNC?

Weighted GPA=4.5357
GPA Unweighted=3.7143

My class rank is 31 out of 316 (Top 10%)

I've taken APUSH, AP Earth/Environmental, AP Government, and AP English 12 this year. (I tried to get more AP classes, but they were full)

I am also taking Honors Chemistry, Spanish III Honors, and College Psychology (counted as an Honors course)

Last year, I took AP English 11, AP Statistics, and AP Psychology. I also took Pre-Cal. Honors, Anatomy and Physiology Honors, and Art I (which I am good in and was able to go on a trip because of this),

AP English Language-3
AP Psychology-3
AP Government-(taking in May)

I've always made at least an A or B in Math, but I am just not that good! :)

Could possible receive an APUSH or APES award for highest class grade?

I've also been a year ahead in Math since middle school.

Please give your honest (but friendly) opinion! :)

Are you IS or OOS? If you are IS, you have a shot. OOS, you are probably a bit of a reach…

I am in state! I live in Charlotte.

How were your recommendations, essays and what is your race/ethnicity?
BUT based on what you have me it is 60%- 65% chance.

I think they were good!

My recommendation was from my AP English teacher, who went to UNC.

I am a white female, so I don’t know if anything would play in my favor. But I didn’t know race/ethnicity played a role in admissions a lot?

your math score might be holding you back. it’s a bit low for carolina.

I think it is a match, being in-state helps tons.

Being a white female probably won’t help. Race and gender aren’t supposed to play a factor in admissions, but now the campus is approaching being 65-70% female.

That being said, if you are IS, you have a decent shot.

as to your math score:

I got in OOS with a 600. I am a white male. Egads!

My friend has very similar stats as you, except his SATs are about 150-200 points lower (I can’t remember them exactly…), and he was accepted. I would say you have a 75+% change of getting in.

signitblank-

Are you also bad in math, but good in english?

If I was good at EVERYTHING, things might change for me…

haha

i think you look pretty solid. we have realllyyy similar stats… except i have taken about 5 more APs and your gpa is slightly higher. i was actually deferred but brought up my SAT to where yours is. so hopefully that was my only issue and since yours is already there hopefully we’ll both get good news in march  unfortunately it is true that we are at a disadvantage for being white females and that we are from competitive areas of north carolina. though they have no “quota” for each part of the state they have to let in people from underrepresented counties, even if they have lower stats than people like us.

where do you go to high school in charlotte? some schools send more students to carolina each year than others. if you are in the top 10% of your class at providence, myers park, and probably a few other schools you have a good chance!

i think you have a good chance regardless, but i wouldn’t say carolina is a definite acceptance for you.

Thanks for all the input, everyone!

Actually, I’m on the outskirts of Charlotte in Gastonia, so I go to Ashbrook High School (if you’ve ever heard of it).

Hahahaha

blairb91 - haha yeah. 780 critical reading.

your SAT IIs are ten points higher than mine. 720 USH, 690 Lit

signitblank-

that’s weird. hahaha

but your crit. reading is about 90 points higher than mine! haha
