is this possible?

hello.

well what i plan on doing in college is learning french, spanish, and russian, and completing prerequisites for medical school.

i know that in doing this my studying will be in two different departments at mcgill.

so what i'm asking is if this is possible for me to do at mcgill? i've checked its website and i'm still not sure on how i can go about doing what i want to do.

if anyone has ever majored in, let's say one of the sciences, and has taken classes outside of that major i would love to hear your experience.

i'd really like to start narrowing down my college list, so all help will be greatly appreciated :)

You can’t major in a science if you are enrolled in arts, unless you are in the dual BA BSC program at McGill (the toughest program to get into).

That being said you really don’t need to major in science. In arts you can basically take whatever you want, but you can only Major in arts subjects. You could do a minor in science, but med prereqs are not deep enough to require enough science in one field to minor.

So yes, taking french, spanish and russian would be doable. Have you taken either 3 before? You can only technically take 12 language credits your first year if you are U0 (less than 30 ap/IB credits), and of those, only 6 can be at beginner level. However, there are ways around it. I’m U0 and I got approved to take 2 intensive language courses this semester (12 credits this semester) after I already took 6 last semester.

Just have to do well and show them you can do well. After first year you’re good to go on whatever you want to take.

Oh and btw, the french department is terrible (the curriculum is the biggest piece of s*** ever put together, not to mention they use a computer speaking program that was probably created in 1995). It’s easy though (the department). I’m sure french lit is a good dept though.
