So, I'm not the best artist in the world, but I take art because I need two electives as a graduation requirement and I find art to be pretty relaxing. Yesterday, my art teacher told me that a piece that I had done a few months ago was to be featured in a city wide art show next month...

I jokingly asked my friend if that was something I could put on a college application, and she said no, and explained because doing so would be "stupid and irrelevant" since I'm not applying to art school.

Is that true? I literally have no idea.

Of course it’s something you can put on a college application.
I’ve been searching my entire past for stuff to put on my college applications. I can’t believe everyone else has so much awesome stuff that they have to decide what awesome stuff to include and what awesome stuff to leave out.

God forbid someone is well-rounded and is talented outside of their intended field of study.

Ouch - cross her off your list of friends. She’s not helping. Regardless of major, showing you have an artistic side is a teriffic EC and one that is not easily matched by other students. It will distinguish your app.

She’s not a helpful person. Having that on your EC list is actually a really good thing. It shows how involved you are outside of general academics.

Yes, I have put extremely similar things on my resume (following teacher and counselor advice) and I am applying to be a nueroscience major. It shows colleges that you have other interests, absolutely put it on your resume!
