I have heard online and from numerous people that Cornell does not weigh SAT scores as heavily as other schools. They take into account your GPA, course rigor, ECs, and especially your essays alot more than SAT scores. Has anybody else heard something like this?

yes i've heard about it too and i think it's true. cornell looks at more than just numbers, it looks for breadth and depth. it's not going to hold some score from one day of your life against you, because frankly that doesn't say anything about you, it's going to look at what you've done over the course of your high school career.

Regardless its still Cornell...there are standards...very very very few make it with lower than a 2100...jusyt glance at the ED thread

agreed, your score still has to be decent and above average, it just won't kill you if it's not stellar

um i have an 1810 and I got in. SATs are only a small part of you resume. Your fit for your college is more important than your skills. Essays, Recommendations, and rigorous course load are more important

It depends on what "other schools" you're comparing Cornell to. If you mean the other ivies, then I agree that Cornell isn't as concerned w/ SAT scores.

Junit, most of my Cornell friends scored around 2100 actually. I know plenty of people under that, including me.

so do you guys think i have a decent shot? i mean i know this is not official, i just want some advice to some students there and also people who are applying there

I got into CALS ED with a 1980 SAT (630 on math, 660 on critical reading, 690 on writing), 670 on U.S. History SAT, 670 on Chemistry SAT, and 30 on ACT. See, there's hope for people with crappy scores. I also don't have a legacy connection and I'm not a minority.

the vast majority of students are going to have high SAT scores so it is more important to stand out from the crowd in other criteria for admissions. Scores still matter, but they really don't help to distinguish one higher scorer from another.

yea, although people do get in with scores like 1980 and 1810...lets just say that those scores are not representative of the average Cornell student. that said, i agree that Cornell may very well not hold the SAT to be the be-all in admissions, but that (as someone pointed out above) doesn't mean that its "easy" to be admitted. also, there are people who get into just about all of the ivies with > 2000 scores.

it depends on the color of your skin

hahaha nice one jrcho88

Of course an asian would say that....b/c we all know the whole world is out to get you right?
