So I applied to USC in January and about a month later I recieved a letter from the office of admissions asking me to verify my information. Well they put me down as a transfer applicant so I sent the letter back with the corrections on it just as they had asked me to do. Then, about two weeks later, I recieve another letter saying that parts of my application are missing so I decide to call and clear up the issue. It turns out that they had recieved all of my materials but they still had me down as a transfer applicant so I had them switch it and the lady on the phone told me it was all cleared up. Fast forward to yesterday. I called USC because I had not yet recieved my admission decision and I was beginning to get quite anxious. The lady on the phone tells me that a decision on my application won't be made until June. Right then I knew that they still had me down as a transfer applicant, even after I had written a letter and cleared it up over the phone. The lady over the phone then puts me on hold for about 20 minutes, I assume telling everyone in the office how much they have screwed up, and she comes back telling me that she has cleared the issue with the people in the office and that they would reach a decision on my application in about a week. ****ed off, I thank the lady over the phone for her effort and hang up.

In my view, I am at a disadvantage because USC had made a decision on everyone elses application by April 1 and while they have already admitted their target number, my application will not be treated in the same way. Does anyone agree with me that this is creating bias on my application and I should be compensated with admission? My stats are 3.8 wGPA, 4 AP's(senior year), 2040 SAT (740 M, 650V, 650 W), Captain and MVP of Water Polo, other great EC's

This is quite strange indeed. Your stats are above average but not as outstanding as those of many other students. I guess at this point, it is difficult to determine your admissions decision.

They are a bunch of dumbasses. They still have not given me a decision either. I also thought I had quite good stats (seemed to be on par with a lot of the scholarship acceptees.) Their office is a mess, thats all I can say.

You might want to have your HS GC give them a call on Monday about your ap as well. It does sound like there are some problems in their office. A friend whose son is completing his freshman year there says that once you make a decision (in their case chose a meal plan), it's REALLY difficult to change because you keep getting referred to different folks & can't get a straight answer. Ultimately, they decided to just not bother & wait until the next semester instead.

I had a question yesterday about admissions/financial aid. I spoke to one person at Viterbi, who let me leave a voicemail message for someone else, called the FAid officer who spoke with us at the new students reception & left her a voicemail, and wrote an e-mail to the Viterbi assistant dean. I'll be curious to see how long it takes to get a response from any or all of these 3 individuals. I was hoping they wouldn't have as many bureaucractic hassles as the UC & CS sytem are infamous for, but I'm starting to "get a bad feeling about this."

People will probably kill me for saying this, but if you REALLY want to go to USC and they end up rejecting you, call them or write them a letter about how you felt you were at a disadvantage because of THEM. If that doesn't work, pursue legal action. You are CLEARLY not being treated fairly here.

btw, what are yours stats? If this is a big reach, USC has more of a reason to reject you and more to provide the jury/judge with.

By the time your case wound through the court system, you would likely be considerably older & much poorer. In any case, courts generally will not second-guess college applications decisions, since there are many "intangibles." The best thing to do is work with USC now, if it's a school you're currently interested in attending. Good luck!

I'm sorry that this happened but unfortunately with 30,000 applicants it does happen - when I applied my app was accidentally delayed a little too and I ended up accepted.

If they are the ones that made the mistake, they will probably not put you at a disadvantage just because they're considering you late. Remember, they admit loads of transfer students each year, so there's still plenty of unfilled seats left in the admission process.
