A large part of my resume/app is science-focused, and I have sent in an additional letter of rec from a research mentor over the summer. The teacher rec from my AP Bio teacher was awesome too. Would it be redundant to write about what I gained personally from the summer research experience for an essay? Or should I focus on other interests that aren't immediately apparent?

Hmm. I would lean towards showing multiple sides of yourself, your interests and your personality. Remember that colleges want JOINERS, so talking about how you like to sit in the science lab might not inspire the admissions officers.

Then again, if you feel your other essays show how you would contribute to the college community, go for the science essay! Having an essay on science, a rec for it, and showing your participation in your resume is not necessarily too much. An essay could show how you personally feel about the subject, and the other details could back it up.

So it kind of depends what your doing with the rest of your app.
what are your other essays about?

I personally think the science essay is overdoing it. However, if you tell it like a story and you don’t focus on the science part, it would be ok. Otherwise, I suggest you avoid it, and tell them something new about yourself.
