I heard that from someone that if you get a letter in the mail 2 weeks after the audition then it’s a rejection letter and if it takes longer than that, it means you are being considered. Does anyone know if this is true?

I'd certainly say it's a rumor. We do know of several that recieved a rejection letter after 3 or 4 weeks.

From what I heard from other candidates, letters were received with either a rejection or a deferral almost exactly 4 weeks from the date of the audition. The last audition date is coming up soon on 3/27. The class should be finalized after that. Hope that helps :)

This is what happens:

Accepted: You normally get a call or email or see it on your Wolverine Access

Delayed Decision/Deferred: Your status will not update on Wolverine and you will eventually receive a letter

Rejected: Your Wolverine Status will say something along the lines of "Thank you for your interest..your file has been reviewed...written decision will be mailed to you over the next two weeks"

Normally your Wolverine Access will not update for about 3 weeks and that is what they tell you at the audition is your normal wait time.

This has been discussed many times on the UMich thread so I'd take a look around some more if you need to, but what I wrote is normally what happens.

and what luv2sail wrote is exactly true. i heard almost a month after by a letter.

My D auditioned Feb 6 and has heard nothing. Makes me wonder if they're waiting for the March 27 auditions to decide.

Bird7887 is exactly right. That is exactly what happened with my Ds online status. She was rejected for MT and the online status changed to the will be mailed in 2 weeks thing. However...it took EIGHT weeks for the letter to arrive!!!! Good news is she WAS accepted for Vocal Performance with an amazing scholarship! The status online for that had the congratulations with an email soon to follow. Hope that helps.

what about waitlist?

people i know that were waitlisted never got the 'two weeks' thing. their status changed to waitlist or they just got a letter if they were earlier deferred and then changed to someone on the waitlist.

Hi, I auditioned on March 6th at UMich and now its been 3 weeks and I’ve heard nothing. My Wolverine Access was not updated at all and I have received no letter or anything of the sort…what does this mean??

It seems to be a pattern this year that notifications occur almost exactly 4 weeks after the audition date so maybe you will hear something by next Saturday :)

Okay, so i just found out on Wolverine Access that I was waitlisted. how many people r usually on the waitlist and whats the probabiity of someone being accepted from it? haha just wondering…

I was just wondering how you can get accepted for vocal performance and not MT. I plan to audition for MT, but considering my weakest link is dance, I’ve been looking at vocal performance as well. Do you audition for both programs? Do they decide? How does that all work? Thanks! :)

Emilee if you are a junior, next year get your application in super early and then you can have your pick of audition dates and actually audition for both MT and Voice on the same day (singing for different people I’d expect). I noticed one day at least this year where that is a possibility on campus. It is not offered at all the auditions where you can do both. So plan extra early around that day.

We are not yet totally done with the process, Emilee, so we aren’t quite at 'expert" status, but you mentioned that dance was your weakest link. There are certain schools where it’s very, very helpful to be a strong dancer. My guess is that UMich is one of them. And CCM. And BOCO. Maybe Point Park. I’m sure I’m forgetting some places. Forgive me as I’m currently living out of a suitcase. If you are a desirable and hard to find “type” my guess is that you might be able to get away without having had as much formal dance training, but if you are like all the other adorable girls who seem to all be cute and slender that are absolutely everywhere at the unifieds, it could really help to be a cracker jack dancer to set yourself apart. Voice Performance degrees are awesome anyway; lots of wonderful, wonderful Broadway singers don’t have MT degrees. So I’d certainly suggest to non-dancers of a type that is plentiful, if it’s late in your teen years, add some music/voice degree auditions to your list and nail a couple of those 24 Italian songs. And if you are younger, maybe do a few less school shows and instead dance your feet off a good amount of hours every week at a reputable dance studio. Ballet, then jazz, then tap. My D has only had to tap twice this season of college auditions.

I agree with everything classical said and definitely think you should try to get your dancing up before auditions. However, don’t cross it off your list. Audition for both programs and remember that Mr. Wagner himself says that UMich doesn’t look for triple threats nor try to create triple threats. They’re looking for unique performers with a spark and don’t believe every person is meant to be great at everything. That said, do dance. lol :)

You two are so amazing! Thank you so much!
I’m currently taking tap once a week, and my dance class at school is ballet once a week and modern/jazz one to two times a week. I’m also trying to get into a ballet class outside of school.
The information on auditioning for two programs was also very helpful.
