I will be able to graduate in 2 years if I finish Intermediate Accounting this year but I don't want to over do it. Is this schedule manageable? Also, how time consuming/ difficult is I-Core? I noticed that everyone in Honors I-Core receives significantly higher grades than the regular I-Core students. Is this because their curriculum is filled with generally driven people?

Fall 2014:

INTL-I 204 - 3 Credits
- Human Rights and International Law

BUS-G 202 - 2 Credits
- Business, Government, and Soc.

Taking A312 Icore semester seems very tough. Some take Icore and A311 in their Fall semester, and that is very difficult. Icore is very time consuming. A lot of students get into study groups of four or so students and study together outside of class. A312 would demand a lot of study time, and lots of time during the case assignment at the end of the semester.

Are you double majoring in accounting and something else, like finance. Finance requires only two extra classes to double major in with accounting.

I assume you are taking INTL I204 to meet the world cultures gen ed requirement (since E201 and E202 meet the S&H requirement). What about taking something that would fulfill the World Cultures requirement at Ivy Tech online this summer and then taking another upper level accounting class this fall in Kelley. If you did not take INTL I204 this fall and took an Ivy Tech substitute this summer (FINA A100; HIST H103; and HIST H104 equivalents transfer to IUB and may be offered at some Ivy Tech campuses online this summer; their system was down, so I could not check; I don’t think any other Ivy Tech classes fulfill the World Cultures requirement), you could take A329 Tax this fall, and still have 15 credits that semester.

Then, next Spring, with Icore, take a required Kelley upper level that isn’t as demanding as A312, maybe BUS-L 375 ETHICS & 21ST CENT BUS LEADER (2 CR), which meets only the first ten weeks of the semester and would not interfere with Icore finals and the case assignment.

That would leave you for senior year A312 the following Fall semester and A324 and A422 or A437 in spring. The other accounting classes you would need for the major that year would be A337 and C301 (1 cr.). X420 and J375 will be needed and are five credits, which makes 18 for senior year with the accounting classes. That leaves 15 credits to get the finance double major or just take nine more credits for supplemental courses for the accounting major alone. With the accounting/finance double major it would be 33 credits for the year; accounting alone would be 27.

Maybe take X420 in Fall 2014; it only meets eight weeks. Then senior year would be 31 (accounting/finance double major) or 25 credits (accounting major alone).

DS1 took INTL I204. He had some easy/busy work. Grades were pretty high. A311 and A325 have some overlap. So, your Fall 2014 schedule is manageable.

There are seats left at Ivy Tech for the online sections of for HIST 111 World Civilization I, which is the equivalent (per Credit Transfer Service) of IUB’s World Cultures class HIST-W 100 Issues in World History. Classes start June 9.

Could take A329 Taxation class instead of the world cultures class this fall and make up for not taking A312 your Icore semester. A312 would be a tough class to take during Icore. Could take BUS-L 375, and maybe X420, too, with Icore classes; that would be four less credits to take senior year and both classes would would end before Icore finals and case assignment.

I am currently taking Micro Econ at a community college to meet the pre req for G202 and I am also refreshing myself on Financial Accounting to prepare for A 311 this fall. I am planning on double majoring in Accounting / Finance which can be a little tricky because of the order some of the classes have to be taken in.

If I go with the current schedule I have now, I will have 27 credits left to complete the double major. The latest I can push back A 312 (to graduate in 2 years) is the Fall 2015 semester. I will also have to take F 303 and F 305 that semester for my Finance core and to fulfill pre reqs for a few of the classes I’ll be taking during Spring 2016.

Note: Looking at another planning sheet I received, I realized that I forgot that I need to take Compass III, Ethics & the 21st C. Business Leader, and Strategic Management which will add up to a combined total of 6 Credits. I’ll look into that, thank you bthomp.

I am taking INTL I 204 to knock out my last World & Culture gen ed. Its good to hear that it wont be too bad on the grading. As for A 311 and A 325, I feel more confident going into them knowing that some of the material overlaps. Thanks Ace.

The order for finance major added to the accounting major, if you are doing the corporate finance emphasis, is pretty straightforward and requires only two more classes than the accounting major alone.

You can do the five finance classes in just two consecutive semesters.

1st semester:
F303 (prerequisite is Core)
F305 (prerequisite is Core)

2nd semester:
F307 (prerequisite is Core)
F402 (prerequisite is F303 and F305)
G345 (prerequisite is E201 and E202)

G345 you can take before Icore.

remaining accounting courses
A337 or A422 (take A422; it will help way more for the CPA exam)
A337 ACCT INFO SYSTEMS
C301 (1 cr.)
A329 Tax
A424 Audit

Are you sure you will need just 27 credits during senior year for the double-major. I get 36, which is why I suggested replacing I204 with A329 this fall. Maybe you have taken X422 and BUS A301, which do not require Icore, already. 36 is a lot for two semesters, given the difficulty of the accounting and finance courses, which is why I suggested knocking out the final World Cultures class online and adding A329 (G345 would work, too) to your fall schedule.

Seems like you would need senior year with your current schedule:
15 credits: Finance
13 credits: Accounting
6 credits: Compass III, Ethics & the 21st C. Bus. Leader, and Strategic Mgt
2 credits: X422
36 credits total

I believe so. The Accounting and Finance double major is 37 Credit hours. If I take A 311, A 312, A 325, and C 301 this year, I should have 27 Credits left. (+ the 6 credits for those classes mentioned earlier) so 33 credits to complete during my senior year if I take that route.

I could also take G345 during my Spring 2015 semester and take A312 during the Fall semester now that I think of it. It would probably be less time consuming.
