hi guys i 've just talked to my GC today and so far this is my schedule for next year.

AP Bio
AP Cal BC
AP Political science
College Spanish
one elective
gym
Eng Honors.

the only thing that im concerned about is my english class.yea im taking Honors next year, but my school actually offers AP Eng.should i take ap eng instead?because im not really sure if i can handle it.......do you think the colleges wont be impressed because of this??? (im an immigrant...came here 3 years ago, will the colleges realize that?)

What type of AP English? Lit or Lang? I ask because Lang is way harder…The hardest part about Lit is that you do a lot of writing and are often reading multiple books at one time. I regret not taking Lit…I took honors instead, and the amount of work my teacher gives is a lot so I think Lit would’ve been a better choice.

Have you taken your SATs yet? Was your CR score strong? Are you planning to apply as a Bio, Political Science or Math/Economics major? You may find the AP Eng Lit may help, and if you feel you need to drop one of the other APs, then keep in mind what your intended major might be. G’Luck!

May I ask about my D’s senior year schedule
AP Calc
AP Environmental Science
Honors Biotech (no AP offering, at least at her school)
AP Psychology
AP Spanish
Honors College Writing

Her CR and writing on SAT were in 90th percentile, but math was only 68th (which is completely not in line with any of her previous standardized testing) – it was her first SAT, she’ll be taking again.

Taking AP chem and AP US history tests in a few weeks.

Do the colleges take into consideration increased number of AP courses senior year even though all results aren’t in – tests etc.

Choosing APs to completment your intended major makes no sense to me unless you are applying outside of the l&s school at the university. Schools expect you to change majors anyways.

the common application asks you how many years you lived in the US. you can also accommodate your lack of proficiency in English with the TOEFL. if you are an international student or lived in the US for less than 5 years you have to take the TOEFL anyway. i had a similar schedule to yours and i got into Hopkins BME this year.

an AP english class would help but if you think you can’t handle it then don’t do it.
Also, I don’t know if your school does this, but starting in 11th grade we can drop gym. If you could do that I recommend dropping it.

yeah you gotta take the TOEFL man. i came here in 2004 but i still had to take it. if you get 650 or higher in your CR section of the SAT colleges don’t require it though.

Same question as yipyip. I’m having trouble making final decisions on my sr year schedule.

Before I give my schedule, I should mention that I am strongly involved in music, vocal and flute (All-State in both, marching band, church music, director of school a cappella group, etc.). I have taken band for three years of high school, but have been unable thus far to take any vocal classes, because they were not offered to students at my school. (My school- a math/science school- is in a somewhat unusual arrangement with an arts school with which we share a building.) Next year I will have the opportunity to take a Solo Voice/Opera class (this is something I have a strong interest in), but I don’t want to drop band, both because I enjoy it and it qualifies me to audition for All-State Band, which I have been a member of since seventh grade. I’m wondering how much it would hurt my application for selective liberal arts schools (currently thinking Swarthmore, Wellesley, Oberlin, Wesleyan, and Kenyon as some of my choices) to take both music classes rather than a fourth year of social studies. (I have already taken AP US and AP Spanish, which is the highest level of Spanish my school offers.)

My other classes are (probably) as follows:
AP English Literature
AP Statistics
AP Chemistry or AP Environmental Science (haven’t decided, a fifth yr of science is a graduation req)
Physics (Phase 5)
Gym and Engineering Drawing (each are semester classes and graduation reqs)

If I decide against the second music class (band) I will add AP US Government and Politics to the list. (My school does, however, strongly advise against more than three APs, so I might have to downgrade the AP Chem to Organic Chemistry or the AP US Gov to American Legal Systems, both of which are Phase 5 classes and within my areas of interst.)

Any opinions on the rigor of my schedule?
(sorry for the long post!)

If by ap political science you mean one of the ap government classes I’d suggest taking ap economics in the second term unless it’s a full year course
