Is this something colleges can understand

After the first semester of my junior year was over with earlier this year, I was ranked 33 out of 1,012 in my class. I gotta admit, I felt accomplished.

But last month, I felt overwhelmed and with depression (I've been on antidepressants since June) and stress, I attempted suicide. It didnt work so well, and I just ended up missing a week of school.

By the time I came back, my grades were straight C's all around.

I'm working my hardest to bring my grades back up. However, would colleges understand that I went through a complete mental breakdown and did my best to work my way back up??

i think if you explained this to them and your guidance counselor knows about it and puts it on your file they would definitely understand especially if you're trying really hard now and getting good grades. i would hope they do anyways...

If you cant kill yourself you suck at life man

jk

but seriously...

They will understand it but remember that college is a very stressful enviornement so they may think you cannot handle it. Unless you had a tramatic event other than the normal stress of high school, I wouldn't put that on the application.

No, I think you should mention it anyway. They will wonder more about the straight Cs without an explanation, and depression is a very valid reason for the grade drop. What matters, too, is that you are really trying to bring them back up. As long as your gc mentions that, it should be fine. It's not the best situation--but good luck.
