Whatever, I'll get rejected/accepted/wait listed in the next couple weeks. I'll eventually get over it. But the hardest part is knowing that so many of my peers and class mates are applying to some of the same schools as me. I feel like I can't stop comparing myself to them. It's so annoying. And when the decisions come out--it's obvious that the top schools are only going to pick one, maybe two, applicants from my school. So the tensions...well let's just say I don't even want to think about it...

And yeah, I don't attend a school where they send dozens to HYP.

Oh, I don't think I'll get into all the top schools. How can anyone have that mindset? I just know that it'll be "one" of us. Therefore, there is bound to some initial tension.

I feel almost the same way, but I have already gotten into schools I love and just have to remind myself (before clicking on my decision notification emails :P) that now wherever I go, I'll be very happy, and my friends are friends for a reason and I want them all to succeed just as much as I want myself to succeed (and i want that a lot, believe me!)

Plenty of CEOs, politicians, and other leaders have come from relatively "second-class" colleges. It's not like you go to Harvard and are suddenly predestined for greatness, or vice versa.

obviously. i never assumed that at all. there are plenty of students who go to harvard and don't know what to do with their education, therefore not every really going that far. whereas some students get out of state schools and do amazing things. it's all about the person. though a degree can help.

i hate the competition too, and i hate that since im black and already got into, and received likely letters from top schools, people keep hassling me, asking my sat scores, and saying that i only got in bc im black. they completely forget about all my achievements in hs and assume that i got in bc im black, its soo annoying

i also hate the waiting, 11 days until ivy decisions!!!

@collegebound_91: Yeah, I'm applying this autumn, but I hate this race-based thing too. Why do we even have to have a section for race on the Common App in the first place?

Ah well, rant over. Good luck with your applications.

I think that, inherent to the process, there's a functionalist way to view this time of your life. Think of it as society training you to manage your expectations and, hopefully not, deal with rejection.

I dislike affirmative action as well.. Those who were truly qualified are labeled as merely getting in based on race... then there are those were would not have gotten in without their race. Rather unbalanced :(

Well if you gave your application your best shot then you quite frankly have nothing to regret! That's how I like to see it. All that people can ask from you is your best. And if that's what you provide them with and you still get rejected then maybe that's the "meant to be" school.

Your better than me because I like comparing myself to others. nonetheless, I feel sorry for you and ask all your friends to be mature, no matter what happens.Tell yourself the same thing also.
