Next year (my junior year) I’ve signed up for AP Lang & Comp, APUSH, AP Chemistry and Physics C (taught together) and the first of a two year AP Spanish Lit/Lang sequence. In addition to this I’ll also be in Precalculus Honors. Outside of classes I’ll be mainly involved with marching band & karate. Will this be too much? Also if you have any tips please leave them below. Thanks!
Physics C usually has a calculus requirement, either concurrent or prerequisite. It would be unusual for concurrent precalc to be enough. Many high schools also have a physics prerequisite for Physics C.
In reality there’s about one or two days of integral work in AP Physics C and that’s about it. At least that’s what my kid said.
What does it mean when AP Chem and AP Physics is taught together? You mean like a combo class that they sometimes do like for Calc AB and Calc BC when they don’t have enough people?
The schedule doesn’t sound too bad. It’s a pretty normal load for an advanced student. The science one is the only really time consuming one IMO.
I think it depends on the teachers. With good teachers who know how to pace the class it’s doable if you have been a very strong student. My daughter has had AP teachers who had no clue how to pace things. There were several weeks with hardly any work and then in a two week period they were assigned work that should have been done over the course of months. Ask around about each of the teachers. It makes a huge difference.
Are you more a STEM or a Humanities type student? It might be worth thinking about not taking an AP in your less favored area.
There was a ton of calc in my daughter’s AP physics C class. It needed to be taken concurrently with AP calc and even then, they got to concepts earlier in the physics than they did in calc. My daughter took AP physics and AP chem senior year (with other APs) and those classes both had a ton of work. My daughter’s experience was that APUSH was a lot of work as well although it depends on the teacher. IMO, it seems like of very tough AP classes in one year. I would consider pushing off AP physics C until senior year.
