So I've been reading about people questioning taking the SAT a fourth time, and now I've placed myself in something of a dilemma. I suppose that this would be my fourth time taking the SAT, omitting the time I took it in 7th grade which isn't on my score report.

1st test: 10th grade (this was the old SAT, before they added the writing section)
2nd test: 11th grade (january)
3rd test: 11th grade (april)
Possible 4th test: 12th grade (october or november). This would definitely be the very last time I take the test.

Since my first SAT is the old version, would colleges regard the test in october or november as my third or fourth SAT? Colleges don't accept the SAT scores from the old test where a 1600 was a perfect score anymore, so does that mean they would disregard the test from tenth grade? Also, I've shown improvement from test to test, except in april where my score slightly went down. My SAT II scores were pretty good, and I want to get my SAT I score to the same level. I doubt colleges would care if i take the test again, since the tests are spaced out over a couple of years, not all clumped in a period of a few months. But I want to see what other people have to say. Also, on practices, I've scored 2250+ (a good improvement from previous tests). So, would it be wise to take the test one last time?

I have been asking myself the same question. My testing situtation is the same as yours expect I took the test 2x in 10th grade (1 old & 1 new). I figure I will take the test again in Oct. and if it is true the colleges take the highest composite then I should be okay. Besides, I really need to raise my scores. If you really need to improve your scores-and it will impact your apps alot then consider it.

If you can raise your score dramatically, then do it.

If not, don't do it.

I'm exactly in your situation...I took the old SAT sophomore year but I'm not sure if colleges will even consider my old one as one of the times I took the SAT.

I'm just going to take the test again. If a college rejects me for taking a test four times, then maybe I don't want to go to that college anyway!

Thanks for your input. And good luck to those of you in my situation!

No. Colleges don't care. Someone asked this at a harvard campus tour and the guide responded that they don't care as long as it d/n consume your life.

How do they calculate the scores, lets say on Test #1 you get 700 math, 700 reading, and 700 writing.
The second test you get 710 math, 660 reading, and 720 writing, is your highest score the first test at 2100, or do they take the highest from each like 710 math, with 700 reading, and 720 writing, so that your score is 2130?
Whats the answer?

some colleges do it differently... yale takes your best sitting while harvard takes the best scores from each section

btw take it again 3 times is ok. they wont count the sophomore time
