Is this too much? (class schedule)

So I'm thinking of the classes I want to take next semester and decided on these:

Calculus I / 9:00 - 9:50 MWF
Programming I / 11:00 - 11:50 MWF
Japanese 100a / 12:30 - 1:20 MWF
Honors Seminar / 4:30 - 5:20 W
Intro to Infomation Science and Techonolgy / 3:00 - 4:15 MW
Scientific Inquiry / 3:00 - 4:15 TH

Do you think it's too much? I know the typical number of classes per semester is 4 but I don't know what to give up... I like them all. Though if push comes to shove, I'll let go of Scientific Inquiry and save that for another semester.

I also want to participate in several activities, such as:

Student Government - run for president
Honor Council - run for vice president/president
Student Life Commitee - run for freshmen representative
Student Technology Awareness Group - run for project coordinator
Programming Team
Cyber Defense Team

There's so much I want to do... do you think such a load is possible with the classes I'm currently thinking of taking?

No it doesn't seem too bad. Just make sure you keep up with everything.. but all in all they aren't THAT hard of classes.

if your an incoming freshman dont do it.. i thought having 5 classes wasnt so bad cause we had 6 in HS and i could always handle it without doing much work. cut out one because the honors seminar wont be taking on too much extra cuase itso nly once a week.

5 classes is usually the norm. I would drop one- its always better to ease into college.

It looks like Scientific Inquiry is just a 1 credit class... how hard could into to information and science tech be? I think you should be just fine. What is your major? Unless the programming is required I'd drop that.

I think I'll take out IST and replace it with a Science class or something... I must be going crazy, lol. Well, that and my mom will kill me if I didn't choose a science class first semester (she wants me to do premed... yeah, whatever, like that's gonna happen) so I think I'll replace IST with Intro to Chemistry.

Calculus I / 9:00 - 9:50 MWF
Programming I / 11:00 - 11:50 MWF
Japanese 100a / 12:30 - 1:20 MWF
Honors Seminar / 4:30 - 5:20 W
Scientific Inquiry / 3:00 - 4:15 TH
General Chemistry I / 3:00 - 5:40 M / 10:50 - 12:05 TH

^ Is this suicide? Oh, and I'm a Computer Science major (thinking of minoring in IST).

For spring semester, I'm thinking of:

General Chemistry II
Programming II
Data Structures and Algorithm Analysis
Intro to Information Science and Technology
First Year Seminar
Japanese 100b

I think thats pretty crazy for ur first semester, I'd do

calc 1
programming
g.chem (chemistry is usually required of CS majors anyways)
japanese

I wouldn't do more than that. And for your second semester why aren't you taking calc II or calc physics..?

I don't know... I never thought of taking another math class. I'm not all that concern about spring semester but yeah, it'll make sense to take Calc II.

Scientific Inquiry is required in my school so I want to get it over with freshmen year. I think I'll take SCI out and take it sophomore year or keep it for fall '08 semester. It can't THAT be bad, right? I mean, I'll only have it for one day a week, same with the Honors seminar.

I'm going to talk with my academic advisor during the summer so I'll ask him/her about my schedule plans. I do plan on having a life...

For spring:

General Chemistry II / 9:00 - 9:50 MWF / 9:25 - 12:05 T
Calculus II / 2:00 - 2:50 MWF
First Year Seminar / 3:00 - 4:15 MWF
Japanese 100b / TBA
Programming II / 11:00 - 11:50 MWF
Data Structures and Algorithm Analysis / 12:00 - 12:50 MWF

Geez, everything is on a MWF...

Thats quite a rough semester.. I'd keep it at

gchem2
calc2
jap2
prog2

calc ii and chem 2 require a lot more work than chem 1 and calc 1 so that many classes is quite a bit

what is seminar?a

FYS is required for all freshmen... I don't really know what it is... but if I choose to not take it in the fall, I have to take it in the spring.

Spring:

General Chemistry II / 9:00 - 9:50 MWF / 9:25 - 12:05 T
Programming II / 11:00 - 11:50 MWF
Japanese 100b / 12:30 - 1:20 MWF
Calculus II / 2:00 - 2:50 MWF
First Year Seminar / 3:00 - 4:15 MWF

Is my fall classes really all that bad? Like I said, I'll only have Sci. Inquiry for one day a week, same with the Honors seminar. Will I still be able to live through the fall semester?

Its tough.. but I don't think its the end of the world. I think you can do it and still have a good time as long as you have time management skills.

your wednesday is going to be hell...maybe have a tuesday thursday class? finals will be worse than hell for you

Omg, finals.

My primary concern is balancing my workload and being active in clubs and activities. I plan on running as an officer for Student Government, Honor Council, etc. and I'm afraid that I won't be able to handle being an officer, participating in work study, being a student with a good GPA, competing in programming competitions and other competitions, volunteering, and well having a life. Am I expecting too much?

basically 10char

Eh, nobody here can really tell you whether it'll be doable or not.

Only you know your own abilities.

it's more typical for people to have 3-4 classes at my school. don't know about you, but this ain't high school no more. can't pull that off!

GoldShadow, did you see all of the activities she planned? She even plans to work.. theres no chance she'll have enough time for all of than and having fun going out with friends also.. its just overkill for a semester.

OP: ---YES---

Oh, i'm guessing you're an incomming freshman right? Well, a lot of those activities seem to be far-reaching...i don't want to be negative, but i don't think it's realistic if you plan to run for student gov. president during your first semester of your first year of college...Again, NOT trying to be negative.

My best advice - go with the flow, let things happen. Don't plan out all four years of college before your freshmen year. Who knows? Maybe you'll find a passion for insects or plants or whatever.

Oh, my bad... I only looked at the class schedule and not the activities.

Yeah, there's not a chance she'll be able to do all those activities.

However, this is something she'll quickly realize once she actually gets to college and sees how much time everything takes.
