Is this too risky?

For my Common App essay, I'm writing a letter as an 18-year-old to my 14-year-old self. Since I'm applying to mainly journalism schools, I'm talking to my "old" self about the importance of meeting deadlines, all while poking fun at my pretentious writing along the way. Is the idea of writing a letter to yourself cliche or is this is a fresh spin?

I think it’s a great idea, as long as you do it well - don’t be too sappy, and don’t generalize, but give good specifics about points in your life that have affected you  Good luck!

Any idea can work if you can pull it off. Execution is everything.

Great. Would any of you be willing to read it and let me know what you think?

yea sure =D

I wasn’t talk to you, broski.

I’d be happy to critique it and tear it to shreads. :)

Imo, it would have been a fresh spin, except it probably will end up being cliche now ;). I hope to G-d that I am wrong, though.

Anyways, I’ll read.

Anyone else want to read the new draft?

sounds like a good idea

Does anybody want to actually critique it?

I’d be happy to read, but be warned, I am a punishing editor.

Great. Look for a PM.

I’d love to read it for you.

i’ll critique

PM, I’ll give you good feedback.
