2 short essays- 1) research 2) my grandfather’s influence on me-> community service and how i changed my perception of life
1 long essay- how i developed my interest in science (a list of experiences combined)
1 supplement essay-disability-> empathy for others and how it makes me want to help others with disabilities
I am concerned that I have emphasized too much on helping people.
I thought of an alternative and came up with this:
2 short essays- 1) research 2) a famous disabled person’s (hint: he was the president of US) influence on me, brief info about my disability, and how I want to help disabled people
1 long essay- how i want to get into the field of science (a list of experiences combined)
1 supplement essay- moving to a different school and how i pushed myself academically
what is your opinion? do u like the first or second better?
<p>my opinion is that:
A. You are crazy
B. You are overthinking this
C. What college is gonna read 4 essays?
D. Who the heck says things like "I think I put to much emphasis on helping people"? Is the adcom gonna reject because you are to generous to others or what?</p>
<p>I don't like either of your supplemental esssays. First, I dislike supplemental essays to begin with. Secondly, a million people have been in the same position as you and just seems so...I don't know, not ordinary, not boring, but just blah.</p>
<p>I agree with the rest. There's nothing risky about your choice of topics.. they seem really safe, conventional to me. What college is this for anyway?</p>
<p>It's not risky if the essays really express who you are and what you're about. If there's any advice that anyone can follow for college admissions, it's that you should simply try to bring out the person you are and believe in. And for god sakes, I hope you are just a little untactful in your writing because it sounds really bad when you ask like "I think I put to much emphasis on helping people"</p>
<p>do what you want to do and what you think represents yourself. if you find yourself volunteering and helping people a lot and you want to let the adcoms know that, then go for it</p>
<p>If that's the type of person you are - then no. Essays are suppose to reveal what type of person you are. And if you're a generous, community service, tree hugger type - go for it. Let them know. That might even make you unique out of their thousands of applicants.</p>
