I was accepted ED and I wanted to see the Niche page but one of the reviews scares me. Its the one made by a sophomore from 2 days ago? Can you guys confirm is this is true for everyone or not because I hope it’s not. Do Wellesley students include all backgrounds like I hope?
That may be true for some people, but a lot of your experience will depend on your own choices. As long as you’re pursuing friendships with fellow students regardless of race, I don’t think it’ll be an issue. Definitely make an effort to get to know the people on your hall and shop around when the student orgs start meeting at the beginning of the year. There will be a few groups of insular students, as there would be anywhere, but I never got the impression that that was a school-wide phenomenon.
My daughter’s close friends are from many backgrounds. I think this is the norm at Wellesley.
As a black woman at Wellesley, I think that it depends on your personality. I’m not really “white-girl” personality material, but no one has been disrespectful or mean spirited. Both of my roommates are white and I haven’t had issues with either of them, with my sophomore roommate being one of my closest friends. I think it comes down to class more than race in this situations.
I really love how diverse Wellesley is, so I’d have to disagree with the Niche review as well. It’s definitely possible to have a very homogenous group of friends if you choose to, but you’ll have a chance to meet amazing people with all different backgrounds.
What is “white girl personality?” Do you mean that all people with white or beige skin have the same personality? Do you think the reason you haven’t “had issues” with your white roommates is because maybe people all have different personalities independent of their ethnic background?
