Is this true?

University of Texas at Austin Overview - CollegeData College Profile

In this link it says that UT- Austin doesn't look at GPA. Is that true for both out of state and in state students, and to supplement this do they just look at rank?

Your class rank and your SAT scores are by far the most important factors for admission. I would imagine this goes for in-state and out-of-state.

I wouldn’t take everything you read on those third-party sites to be 100% accurate though.

Out-of-state applications are reviewed holistically.

sooo… they do look at GPA?

They use rank and test scores to calculate your Academic Index. They will see your GPA, but they only care about what it means in comparison to your HS peers, i.e., rank. See the holistic review rubric here, at pages 4-5, and follow relevant footnotes if you want to see the formula applied depending on your choice of major.

The information in the Selection of Students chart you referred to at [University of Texas at Austin Admissions Information - CollegeData College Profile](http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg02_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=788#selectionOfStudents) is reported by UT Austin, not an interpretation by the website. (This data is part of the Common Data Set.)

Class rank correlates directly with GPA, so your grades certainly matter, even if they report that GPA is not considered.

If you’re a Texas resident, you have auto-admission so long as you’re in the top 9% of your class.
