Is it true that if one is in the top 5% of their high school in Florida, they are guaranteed admission to UF? hat was on their website...but I am not sure if it is still in effect.

even if it weren't true, it would astonish me if UF deferred/rejected any applicant in the top 5% of their class.

The file that states this is relatively recent, but I heard that they may have raised the benchmark to 3%.

That got cancelled like 2 years ago

This question came up in early December because it DOES say on the UF website that the top 5% are guaranteed admission. When I called Admissions, they didn't know what I was talking about. I did some further research, and this is what I found, and posted on December 3rd.

..... the Top 5% guarantee was established by Provost David Colburn in 1998, when he was promoted to his position as Provost and VP of Adademic Affairs. Colburn resigned in December 2004 to take another job, and the 2005 freshman class was the last class to be guaranteed admission. The 2006 class had no such guarantee for the Top 5%. Remember, 369 Valedictorians applied for UF's 2006 freshman class, and only 346 were admitted.

Hope this helps, college4me.
g8trmom

I don't see why UF decided not to admit those 23 valedictorians-- seems a bit odd. Where did you find that, g8trmom?

because admissions knew that they were using UF solely as a safety and were definately not going to enroll if accepted...a stupid reason
