I was on a website where a student wrote, in 2004, that no one got in with under a 1200/1600 SAT score. Is this true?

"As for SATs, nobody entered this year's freshman class with below a 1200, and even then the people who did enter with a 1200 must have had pretty spectacular GPAs or extracurriculars. To be on the safe side, again for just getting in, get a 1250. A bare minimum of 1300 is required for any special programs. Good luck."

No, that’s not true. From UMD’s website–stats for the Fall 2006 (class of 2010)…it does not say what the lowest SAT score was, but if 25% scored lower than 1240, then you can be sure there are some outliers. Note that there is a difference between the # of admits vs. the class size…: Not unusual for a public U, but less than 50% of those admitted actually end up attending. However, if your SAT is 1240 or lower (with similar kind of GPA, you should probably consider UMD a “reach” or “slight reach”. Good luck!!!

For the Fall 2006 Freshman class, we received over 23,000 applications for a class of 4,025.

The admitted freshmen students have a strong B+ or better average in their high school coursework and have taken the most challenging courses available to them including honors, Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses.
