<p>I started up a UNICEF club at my school, and we help out nearby disadvantaged communities.</p>
<p>That’s a good EC…shows you have some character, but I can’t see how it’s extraordinary or especially intriguing to a BS/MD program.</p>
<p>It’s great, but you want to try to have medically-oriented activities alongside as well!</p>
<p>The very top programs are more impressed by significant humanitarian involvement than “medically related” extra curriculars. This is likely to be more of a factor in choosing between finalists than in determining who will be offered an interview.</p>
<p>While you are definitely helping a good cause, so kudos for that, I would not say this is particularly unique or stand-out. I can’t speak for all high schools, but at mine there were no less than 10-15 clubs at any one time that supported some humanitarian cause, most of them started up within the last year. It is an excellent extracurricular but in the end no more impressive than research(IMO)</p>
