Is this university interested in me or did they just want the application money?

Hello my name is Johnny and currently I'm a senior in high school, and I live in Boulder, Colorado. Two days ago I received an email form the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs saying that if I applied to their university I would get lost of advantages, however, I don't know what type of advantages they mean because my grades aren't good at all and yet I did apply and they said that they would give me a admission decision in about a month. Do you think maybe they just want the 50 dollars of the application?

here are my past GPAs:

Freshman: 2.8 GPA
Sophomore: 1.4 GPA almost all Ds but no Fs
Junior: 3.2 GPA weighted and 3.1 GPA unweighted
Currently: 2.4 GPA

What are my chances of getting in to this university with a 2.4 GPA and an 18 on the ACT? Do you think I could get accepted? if not, what other colleges would you suggest?

Go to cc and get your GPA up. Boulder is a high reach for you

The OP didn’t apply to Boulder, he LIVES in Boulder. Here is a link to the admissions page, and there is a chart in the middle of the page (the blue and black one). Click on it to expand it.

You will see that with an 18 ACT and your GPA, you are solidly in the “weak candidate” section. With your current GPA, you would need to get your scores up to a 24 or better to get into the “possible candidate” section. If I were you, I would study and take the ACT again. Even if they reject you, you could send the score and ask them to reconsider if you do well enough. And it would help you with any other schools you want to apply to.

Oops my bad

While I agree with @intparent that you should definitely retake if you are interested in/are applying to UCCS, an increase of 6 points on the ACT is no small feat. I wouldn’t expect a result like that, especially considering that, to be frank, your ACT is in line with your GPA. I think that going to a CC for a year or two, getting good grades, proving you are college material, and then transferring may be your best option.

To answer your question directly though, yes, they are probably more interested in your application fee than you. Colleges try to convince students to apply by offering “special status” on their application all the time.
