<p>Yeah, I'm hoping to get it resolved. The school has been helpful...my parents have been very involved....the police are very good about it...I'm hoping it works out....I don't like this sort of thing at all....not that anyone does</p>

That is not the law (at least in most states). Situations like this are put to a "reasonable person" test ... if a reasonable person could find the behavior inappropriate then the person must stopped if asked ... if the request to stop is overly restrictive then it is not required. It certainly seems reasonable that a male teacher being overly chummy would make a female student feel uncomfortable ... and that is enough to require him to stop the behavior. </p>
<p>BTW - if this is the first reported instance it typically would not be enough to be fired ... there needs to repeated instances after being told to stop or a first instance that was severe enough to warrent firing ... from the info given I would guess there was other instances to warrent the firing or the teacher quit to not have to deal with the situation.</p>
