I am a high school senior who recently got rejected from Cornell and Columbia but managed to get into all CUNY (Hunter offered me their own honors program plus 4k scholarship) and St.John’s (with the full ride).
However, I really want to transfer to either Cornell or Columbia because I do not want to diminish my genuine passion to study in an environment equipped with the diverse group of bright people.
Because of I am planning to transfer by fall 2019, transferring after the freshmen year might sound hectic but I have seen several people with similar stats of mine managed to attend their own dream school. Does anyone here have a similar situation as mine? I would appreciate any feedback on my plan. Thank you!
You were rejected by both schools. What will you do in one semester at a CUNY that will get Cornell and Columbia to change their minds?
Colleges don’t usually like to see kids with one year of college relitigating last year’s decisions. They keep records. If you truly do not want to stay at either of your acceptances, you need to build a whole new list of target, match, and reach schools.
Most elite schools are more selective for transfers than for freshmen. Cornell is an exception, if you have a solid two-year record of academic and extracurricular achievements.
Then should I aim for spring 2020 transferring???
Yes I’d go with spring 2020 transferring.
Make sure you’re completely happy with what college you attend though. your academic performance will suffer if you’re not and there is really no guarantee you’re going to get in either of those places.
