Is transferring really easier?

I've heard many people say that if they don't get in to their desired schools then they will just transfer from another college and get in. Is this true? I happen to be curious because I was wait-listed for UMich. If I don't get in and I end up going to Western Michigan University and maintain good grades there, is it that easy to get in if I just apply as a transfer student?

Yes it is easier to get in via transfer, but obviously it is no gimme. You can go to a different school for 1-2 years, meet transfer requirements for the college you want to transfer to (check their websites) and apply to transfer. This also requires you to maintain a good GPA in the first college you go to

this might help http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1267337-did-happen-anyone.html

In general it depends on the college - some don’t even accept transfers. Note that UMich has the same acceptance %age for transfers as freshmen. You don’t get a boost unless you need the time to get your grades in order (if your brain all of a sudden turned on in college).
