I’m currently stuck choosing between Diamond Bar High School and Troy High School. Troy is far better than DBHS academically, and I am currently in my school’s science olympiad team and want to pursue it in high school. All of my friends are going to Diamond Bar though and I don’t know if I want to restart all over again for it. Can you still get into good colleges even if you don’t go to Troy?

But it’s possible to get into good colleges from ANY high school in the country. It’s YOUR qualifications they’ll look at, not your school’s.

I didnt attend troy myself but have multiple friends there. Troy can be a miss or hit. Going to troy doesnt guarantee you get into a good college. It is the grades that matter as well as extra curricular. There are plenty of people who get into the top schools that dont go to troy. Troy mostly pressures you to take a lot of aps which can be very challenging. My friend, who was in honor classes and did really well before ended up getting D’s and dropping her math class. She also gpt mostly Cs and Bs. For example, whitney hs is lile troy but i know that many of my friends that go there always complain about the teachers. Most schools that are academically strong are due to the fact that the students go to after schools and have parents that can financially support their children to have private tutors( what i have see). My other friend, after going to troy, eventually dropped from accelerated classes to normal classes while her grades just kept droping. If you are fine with studying A LOT and willing to try every single moment i guess it is fine. It is not impossible to do well but from what i have seen, those students all have private tutors that their parents try to keep discreet as possible because they want to keep the image that “their children are naturally smart.” The only reason why my friends say they still attend it because their friends are there. If ypu suddenly drop academically, it can hurt you ego as well as confidence. I recommend troy if you are more IT focused. Overall, there are many options for science at other schools so i dont think it will make much of a difference if you go to diamond bar. Most schools have a science Olympiad team, if not it might be good for you to make it and show your dedication to colleges.
i was in the same situation and I went to Walnut High. Diamond bar and walnut are still fairly competitive so ur already challenging urself there. In troy, my friend is taking AP World and AP comp sci and like Half of algebra 2/half of pre calc in freshman year. U basically dont have a life there u might choke there. Your high school experience shouldn’t be studying nonstop, instead it should be a good experience
If you can be like Troy High alum Azia Kim, you can “enter” Stanford.
