Is Tufts really a party school???

I just got back from my overnighter the other day, and from the actions of the host I stayed with, Tufts seemed like a party school. This kid drank everynight and said that the frat parties were big. This had totally gone against what I had every heard or read about regarding Tufts.
I really want to apply ED to boost my chances, but I am not into partying or drinking. The room mate of the kid I stayed with said that there was no pressure to drink and that there was much more to do. Is this true? Was I just getting a skewed image since my host was a freshman?

You just saw one person who drank excessively (though any college campus will have them. The stories about harvard/mit/tufts students going to the hospital are regular news) as his lifestyle. I admit there are a lot of people who do party, but it's by no means an all-encompassing description of the campus. It's just more apparent because it's noticeable. People who don't drink don't go outside and loudly proclaim their sobriety - to me it's a valid but curious concept to wrap one's mind upon.

Thanks snuffles, I didn't mean to sound like I was stereotyping the whole school, but instead meant to ask if there was a lot of drinking.

LOL SNUFFLES! It's funny b/c the other day at homecoming, everyone was roaming the streets as usual, and as me and my other two sober friends passed by some cop car, my friend said loudly "I am SO ****ING SOBER!!!!" <--Hilarious.

Hey, brownorbust, I really would not worry about Tufts being a party school. Compare it to schools like Dartmouth, where there's pretty much nothing ELSE to do besides go to frats. There are people who go to frats, yes, but often you'll find that some of the people there aren't even drinking. I don't really drink that much (I weigh 97 pounds, so I get drunk off like one beer, it's pathetic), and I don't like dancing. So what I like about parties is running into people you know and talking to them.

But there's ALWAYS something else to do! Whether it's a show or concert or movie screening, or going into Boston or meeting up with friends from other Boston schools...I've actually had many INCREDIBLE nights just hanging around the dorm with my closest friends, maybe watching movies or playing video games. If you're not a big drinker, you'll never lack for fun, TRUST me.

Thanks bluirinka! I had a feeling that it wasn't as party-like as my host was making it appear. I am so glad this is cleared up! Now I have nothing stopping me from applying early. Hopefully I'll get in!

haha absolutely! I really wish you all the best...and apparently you realized that there IS something out there besides Brown :-P

But don't get me started on all the ways that Tufts is better than Brown, haha

It's so true, though. I posted this earlier, but like, I was sitting at dinner with some friends, and my friend mentioned that she had never been to a frat party here. About three of my other friends agreed. Then two more were like, "They're pretty lame...you're not really missing anything." And that night we went out into Boston, and the next day the Head of the Charles, followed by Quincy Market and then Wedding Crashers in someone's dorm. Of course, not EVERYONE thinks the frats are lame - my roommate just walked in the door and started talking about what a blast last night was, getting ****ed up and passing out in her boyfriend's bed. There's fun for everyone!
