Is Tuition Award same as Merit Aid?

My D's tabs with aid/loans/awards just popped up today. We do not qualify for any financial aid from any of the schools she has been accepted to with the exception of the $5500 unsub loan. She has received a few nice Merit Aid packages from several schools.(none of which are her top 3
On the Fordham site, it says she has Fordham Award money of $9200 for 2010/2011 year. Is this merit aid or something else?

Does it say which scholarship she qualified for? If you look around on the Fordham site there is a listing of the names of all the merit scholarships they give (Presidential, Dean’s, Loyola, etc.)

My S has a Fordham Tuition Award and it is a scholarship. There is no specific name attached to it but he gets the same amount every year (prorated half in each semester). I believe he has to keep up a B cumulative average to keep the award. I did call to confirm this before my S started Fordham and I’d suggest you do the same just to be sure. Congrats!

Wondering about this tuition award as well. We did not get any financial aid other than the 5,500 stafford loan also, but son got Loyola scholarship which I know is renewable but he also got a tuition award around 14, 000, but it does not say if this is renewable. I did call back a couple of months ago since he applied early action and the person on the phone said yes it is renewable, but I would like to have that in writing. In the financial aid booklet they send with the package, they do not say if tuition awards are renewable. Anyone know for sure? Thank you!

My son has a tuition award. We recieve credit for half of the annual award each semester. As I understand it it is renewable as long as (1) you file a FAFSA every year and (2) a certain GPA is kept up (I think a 3.0 but I’m not positive). Scroll down to the tuition award section of this website.

[Traditional Rose Hill and Lincoln Center Fordham University Aid](http://www.fordham.edu/tuition__financial_a/undergraduate_studen/types_of_financial_a/traditional_rose_hil_2158.asp)

Thank you happy1.

Glad I could help. Also, it never hurts to make one more call to the school to confirm that it is an annual award. It’s a lot of money and it makes sense to double check.

Thanks for all of your info. We are vsiting Fordham again next week and I will clarify.

Have Presidential Scholarships been awarded yet?

Yess. I know someone who recieved it. You know when you were accepted.

D got a letter awarding $4,500 per year as a grant, and another $4,500 available as a loan. We did not ask for FA, and did not fill out a FAFSA, nor were we asked to. It was a nice surprise, but it looks like she will attend Wake Forest, so a little more money left in the pot for someone else.

Per FA Counselor this morning…Tuition Aid award is a merit award that will not change and will not be taken away. It is not a need based award so it is offered regardless of income and will not decrease should your income go up. You will get the same award all 4 years provided you maintain a satisfactory academic performance.
