I don’t have a really good set of ECs so I’m thinking of adding tutoring. It’s at a local private tutoring academy and I can get paid later (right now it’s unpaid volunteering). I might also start tutoring younger students at my school too (would be paid). Would this be a good EC? It’s not like I’m specifically targeting socioeconomically poor students to tutor, it’s just tutoring students whoever pays for it. (so not “changing the world” or anything…)
My other ECs include a lot of personal activities (like making music), some recreational sports (not competitive in any way), and some more teaching (I offered piano lessons until the student quit, and was teaching basic CS for a while). I have a lots of activities too but I didn’t strategize things well so they’re all over the place (not very consistent). Would tutoring be a worthy addition?
Yes, tutoring is a great EC whether paid or as volunteer community service.
Teaching allows one to better understand the material & requires one to communicate effectively. Patience & discipline are other valuable qualities that tutors develop.
It is a fine EC. Do it if it is something you care about.
